Home Remedies for Toothache

Almost everyone has had a toothache at one time or another, whether it’s sensitivity from a new filling or a wisdom tooth coming in. The pain is usually worse at night when you are laying down, putting more pressure on the nerves around your teeth. There are many home remedies that can relieve your pain.

The first thing you should do is gently brush and floss to get any stuck food out of the problem area, and rinse with Listerine which has an antiseptic in it.

Chewing on a clove of garlic can numb it or if the flavor is too strong for you it might help to mix a smashed clove of garlic with peanut butter an applying it to the tooth, the peanut butter will stick giving this method a little more time to work.

Many people swear by the quick pain relief from an ice massage, rubbing an ice cube in between your forefinger and thumb on the webbed part of your hand for a few minutes on the side of the tooth pain.

A few drops of vanilla extract or whiskey on the aching tooth can give you almost instant pain relief. The alcohol can act as an anesthesia for fast results.

A hot peppermint tea bag placed on the tooth can do wonders. The peppermint is a pain killer and the warmth of the tea bag will soothe the area.

Holding an ice pack on the tooth or on your Cheek for 15-20 min at a time can numb the nerves lessening the pain.

A drop of oil of oregano or clove oil can help, they both have a strong taste but are natural antibiotics and can remove an infection.

If you can handle it chewing on a piece of raw onion for about three minutes can relieve the pain and kill germs in the mouth.

Holding a heating pad or hot water bottle against the cheek on the side that has pain can dull the ache.

grapefruit seed extract is another option. A drop on the tooth might hurt at first, but the pain will go away over the next half hour.

If you want to try one of these and you don’t have it readily available in your kitchen pantry not to worry because most of these remedies can be found in any grocery store. Some of the extracts can be harder to come by and you might have to go to a natural food or vitamin store.
