Great Places to Eat in or Near New York’s Lake George Region

Dining out is probably our only way to socialize with such hectic schedules between work and family. My husband I tend to try and make an evening out with friends at least twice a month and have dinner at a local restaurant. This allows us to avoid the “dinner” at home which in turn creates the “mess” at home and it also allows us to catch up with friends. However, being in a tourist area such as NY Lake George, it can sometimes be difficult to choose, because yes there are a lot of places to eat. However it can also be a tourist trap. Been there, done that. When traveling to a place where many dine you run the risk of having a great ambiance with horrible food. But within the last year or so we have found some spectacular places to dine that offer both ambiance and great food. So if you are planning to visit the spectacular Lake George region, I have fantastic suggestions where to find the best foods and service.

One of our favorite places to eat is called The Log Jam Restaurant. Talk about a captivating place that gives that outdoor feeling of being in the mountains. There is an old pot belly stove as soon as you enter which gives you that warm feeling of truly being in the Adirondacks. The scenery is set as if in a log cabin with three of the most beautiful stone wood burning fire places. The dim light setting only adds to this wonderfully romantic scenery, and yet still allows it to be kid friendly. So it’s perfect for couples that just want a night out or for families that wish to spend a night out sharing in what I like to call a “cozy and warm” environment. The menu offers a vast variety of foods from seafood, prime rib, lamb chops, char-broiled steaks, fresh lobster, chicken and veal entrees, and a salad bar. They also offer a great kid friendly menu, with lots of choices for the little ones. And of course ending this magnificent evening without one of their desserts wouldn’t even be imaginable. The only thing you would be left with is the desire to have a king size bed to finish this relaxing, wonderful evening.

If Mexican food is what you’re into, I highly recommend Carl R’s Cafe. The setting suits the Mexican scenery with pictures of cactuses and hot chili peppers. They serve you immediately with nachos and salsa. The menu offers a variety of Mexican specialties, which of course include the jalapeno peppers and refried beans, enchiladas and what would a Mexican place be without tacos. They also offer American foods which include burgers and chicken for those that just enjoy the Mexican atmosphere, without all the spices. Carl R’s is a very kid friendly place with crayons and a coloring book along with a diversified kids menu. Now, lets talk about the bar selection who would go to a Mexican restaurant and not expect margaritas, daiquiris and tequila, this is the place to adventure any one of these drinks. Just remember to have a designated driver.

What about a real brewpub? Talk about any kind of ale, Davidson Brothers Brewery and Restaurant has it all. A real live brewery making and cultivating spectacular flavors of ale, with the perfect setting to attribute what it does which is make beer. It is spacious with a very friendly bar and most of the time live entertainment. In the summer months seating is available outdoors in a downtown atmosphere which only adds to this perfect tone of a real live brewery. The food is awesome and goes perfectly with any flavored ale of your choice, and if not sure the hostesses will give advice and taste sampling. My husband particularly likes this best. The food selection varies from steaks, chicken, wraps, burgers and with specials of the night. There is also a great kid’s menu for the little ones that want to accompany mom and dad and take a visit to a brewpub as well.

Finally, one of our most recent outings included the Hispanic culture. La Cocina is your source for the Latin Cuisine. You can enjoy Cuban food in a warm decor that takes you back to a time that’s suggestive of old Cuba. While dining, you will take a journey that has the full flavor and excitement of the Hispanic tradition. With the food and music you’ll fully experience the richness of the Cuban culture. I particularly enjoyed this because it brought me back to my old Hispanic roots and the food was just so impressive that I am so excited to return. It is a very family friendly atmosphere and if you have any questions the chef/owner is only too eager to answer them.

I highly recommend all of these places to dine when visiting the magnificent Lake George region. They are exceptional in both service and food. Most of all they offer services for both the intimacy of a couple looking for a place to just relax or a family interested in an evening of entertainment.
