This type of garbage picking is also called ‘curb crawling.’ Keeping the local laws and ordinances in mind, you should get a van, pick-up truck, or other large vehicle and start cruising the streets on garbage pick-up day. When you see a likely piece of garbage, simply stop the truck and take it. People, by and large, will not even notice that you do this. If they do notice, most will not care. After all, do you really care what happens to your garbage after you get it out of the house?

What types of items can you find by garbage picking?

Furniture is a popular item that can be found. When people purchase new furniture, they usually throw out the old. However, a ratty old couch or broken lounge chair will not get you much money. To really profit from discarded furniture, it is a good idea to go garbage picking in apartment complexes. People, when their lease is up or they are evicted, are much less likely to take their furniture with them. You can find some quality pieces in this manner.

Besides furniture, you can also find small appliances, electronics, and especially lamps and vacuum cleaners. You might assume that, since these items are being thrown out in the trash, they are all broken. This is simply not true. Many people throw out small televisions when they buy a new one, or discard lamps when the switch ceases to work. Small televisions can fetch at least twenty dollars, and an old lamp is easily repaired with a switch kit that costs less than five dollars.

There are many items that you can sell for a profit to be found in the garbage. The general rule of garbage picking for cash is to search in the more affluent neighborhoods. Also, you must remember to not be obnoxious or make a mess. Getting cash for other people’s trash is an easy way to make some money.
