Fun Summer Jobs in Sacramento, California

It’s never too early to line up your summer job. Whether you’re interested in part-time or full-time work, there are many opportunities to choose from. If you like to breathe fresh air and work in gorgeous surroundings, try working as a camp aide or counselor. As a bonus, room and board are also included. Who doesn’t love to be a food taster? The State Fair has a dazzling array of cookies, brownies, pies, and cakes just waiting to be sampled. McDonald’s has been the first summer job for many teens. How about earning some money and staying fit at the same time? Gyms are always looking to hire more people.

If you love animals, the Sacramento Zoo has many volunteer opportunities. Explore an animal related career while gaining some hands on experience.

Position: Camp Aide
Location: 17 miles from Lake Tahoe

Minimum Age: 16 at the time of appointment

Duties: Performs a variety of assigned tasks such as recreation, custodial, camp store,
maintenance, kitchen, and dining hall

Position: Food Judging and Demonstration
Location: Cal Expo, Sacramento, CA

Pay Rate: $8-$10 an hour.

Hours: Will work as needed during the California State Fair, which runs from Aug- Labor Day.

Duties: Assists in the receiving, judging, and returning of entries in the California State Fair Competition program (baked goods and food preservation). Aids department head in coordination of various program special events such as scheduling and supervising food demonstrations.

Position- Front Desk Closer/California Family Fitness

Pay Rate: Starting pay is $8 an hour

Duties: Welcome members to the club and provide a comfortable environment through friendly greetings, efficient customer service, and clean facilities. Responsible for some closing duties. Must be dependable and able to multi-task. 15-20 hours a week.

Position: Teen Volunteers/ Sacramento Zoo
Location: Landpark Drive & 16th Ave

Start Date: Mid-June until end of August. Camp Counselors choose 4 one week shifts during the summer and one overnight campout session.

Hours: Shifts can be all day. Morning and afternoon shift are five hours each, and overnight shift is 3:30 P.M. until 9:30 A.M. the next day.

Qualifications: You must be 15-19 years of age by July 2008. Must have experience working with children and enjoy working with people. Must be able to attend a zoo training on June 1, 2008.

Responsibilities: Assist instructors with games, activities, and crafts for week- long camp classes for children ages 4-14 years. Keep children together while walking through the zoo to see animal enrichment feedings or educational animal encounters. Present educational games and crafts to family visitors out on zoo grounds, including scavenger hunts and face painting. Assist with food, skits, and crafts for overnight activities.
