Free Math Study Guides

Anyone who is having to take a math course in middle or high school and college, may find these free math study guides useful. I was one who did not really care for math in school. If I would have had these types of study guides available to me when I was in high school, I may have changed my tune about math.

Knowing what I know and what I knew then about how important math is for obtaining various jobs, I would have put more effort into studying math. I had always heard when getting a job you will need to know your math. What I did not realize is that most of the different styles of math are used in every job.

I did not realize that until I started working in retail. What I realized was that anyone who works in retail needs to know more than basic math. I know what you are thinking. People do not need math like they use to because the registers tell the cashiers how much change to give back.

While that is true, did you ever think about what happens when their registers’ crash due to a power failure or a surge in electricity? I worked in a home and farm store for a few years. One day we had a power outage due to a wind storm in the area. We were not allowed to shut the store down because we had the means to provide lights for our customers to shop.

When it came time for the cashiers to ring up the customers, they had to write down what the customers had bought. We had to do price checks for their items. The cashiers had to total the items by hand and calculate the taxes on the total. This required them to use several aspects of math with checking people out.

Not only that, while setting up floor displays, we had to use basic algebra and geometry skills to set them up. Very rarely did we have schematics for setting up these areas or the shelves in the other parts of the stores. As you can see, not every business uses a preset schematic to reset their shelves. Knowing even your basics of all the different types of maths can help you perform your job.

Another thing when working jobs are construction works have to know different types of math to construct the building they are working on. This also includes, cement procurers because they have to know yardage for cement pouring. Although, the cement truck drivers normally know this off hand, but those who load their trucks need to know their math for this.

Even engineers have to know their math while reading the plans they are using for building whatever project they are working on. Architects need to know their math as well. Doctors and nurses need to know some math while they are performing their jobs as well. As you can see from the simplest of jobs to the most extensive jobs, workers need to know some type of math to do their jobs.
