Follow These Crafty Steps to Create a Vintage Coffee Shop Kitchen

There is something so warm and cozy about a coffee shop. Dark rich colors, fun cozy artwork, and a general comfortable richness. You can easily redecorate your kitchen in this same style for very little money. Follow these simple steps to redecorate your kitchen into a cozy coffee shop inspired room that will have everyone hanging out in the kitchen.

1. Paint the Walls

Coffee shops always have warm rich color son the walls. A color like Hawthorne Red from Eddie Bauer is perfect. You can buy it by the gallon at Lowes. You will need a few coats to really achieve the full red color, but it is well worth it. I recommend using a tinted primer to save some money.

You could also go with a deep royal or navy blue for your coffee house inspired kitchen. If you are a major Starbuck’s fan you could go with a hunter or emerald green, but I don’t recommend it.

2. Change Out Your Kitchen Hardware

Go with some rustic or wrought iron pieces. This will carry on the feel of wrought iron café table legs. Wrought iron is a perfectly casual way to warm up the feel any room. In small doses it really adds a lot of character and fun to a room.

3. Add Warm and Cozy Artwork

The walls at most coffee shops are brimming with artwork. In fact, many display local artists and their work. If you can’t afford to go buy any local art you can create some of your own. If you can’t draw or paint why not let the kids do it. Frame their artwork in simple but beautiful frames and they will really feel special. They are local, so you own have local art work on the wall.

If you don’t have kids you could run out with your digital camera and take some shots around town. Get some nature shots, some architectural shots, and even some of the people in your neighborhood. This is a great way to really feel like part of your town!

4. Paint a Faux Brick Wall

All great coffee shops have some exposed brick walls. This is a simple faux treatment that anyone can do. You can even buy faux brick wall paper now a days. I see it at Lowe’s and home Depot all of the time. They make it in a white embossed wall paper that has the look and texture of faux brick. Paint on a coat of paint in a light gray color of the grout. Then let it dry. Now, use your stencil brush to tap on some brick red and sandy colored paints. That Hawthorne Red mentioned before would be perfect for this.

5. Get some Café Style Seating

Go check out the home décor stores in your neighborhood. Pier One imports, Cost World market, Antique Shops, and even Goodwill are all great sources for café style seating. You can even find very affordable café tables and chairs at Target and on www.target.com. Find them all the time for less than $100. Mix and match the chairs for an electric look. Most coffee shops have an eclectic mix of furnishings that are all interchangeable between the different tables. To save some money only buy the café table. Add a coat of paint to your existing chairs. Be sure to paint each chair a different color.

6. Don’t Forget The Music

Many coffee shops sell CDs that they actually play in their store. They are usually a great mix of jazz, blues, and even some piano music. Check out your favorite coffee shop and buy a few of what the have to offer.
