First 2009 BCS Standings Are Here

The 2009 BCS standings are making Florida fans happy. The first 2009 BCS standings reveal that the BCS ranks leader is Florida, which will make the supporters of Gator Nation quite happy. After being leapfrogged by Alabama in the week 8 AP Top 25, this has to be good news for the Florida Gators, as it shows they are leading the way in the poll that matters the most right now. Following close on their heels though is the Alabama Crimson Tide, looking for any chance they can get to take that #1 spot away from fellow SEC powerhouse Florida. It’s a season for SEC power apparently, and both teams want their shot at the title.

Following Florida and Alabama in the first 2009 BCS standings is Texas, which has been right around the third spot in the national polls recently. After Texas comes a bit of a surprise, as Boise State shows that you don’t have to be a in one of the big six conferences to get some respect in the new BCS Polls. The #4 spot won’t get them into the 2009 college football National Championship, but it does put them in position to possibly make it into a very nice BCS Bowl game when the 2009 NCAA bowl schedule is revealed. That’s what they want anyways, but of course they would like to be in one of those top two spots as well.

The #5 team in the first 2009 BCS standings may come as a surprise to many football fans, because the college football rankings haven’t been that kind to this team. Sitting at #5 in the 2009 BCS rankings is Cincinnati, which has been putting up some great numbers on the back of a quarterback that could possibly contend for the 2009 Heisman Trophy. Making it to #5 in the first 2009 BCS standings is quite an accomplishment for Cincinnati, and it shows that the computers are really respecting the schedule and the performances that Cincinnati is putting up in the current college football season. It will be interesting to see how they move around in the BCS standings with other teams winning and losing around them in the ranks.

A couple of other teams worth mentioning in the first 2009 BCS standings are Iowa at #6, USC at #7, and LSU at #9. This is not a list where you are going to find Oklahoma though, despite the fact that the AP Top 25 and the Coaches Poll seems to think that they are still worthy of a Top 25 rank.
