Feather Boa Wedding Decorations

It’s fun to look through wedding catalogs, or browse online stores, to see all the things now available for a bride-to-be. Sure, you’ll find every type of centerpiece, tablecloth, vase, party favor – there’s no end to it! That’s great if you have a huge budget, but if you’d love something spectacular for a fraction of the price, you need to consider making your own wedding décor. There are many different things you can make that look lovely but cost little.

Have you ever seen those cheap feather boas at a dollar store? They’re made for little girls to play dress-up and come in a variety of colors. Purchase white feather boas – or other colors – to make all sorts of beautiful, feathered décor pieces that coordinate with your wedding colors.

Use feather boas to accent the tables by simply affixing them to the edges. Hang lengths of feather boas from the ceiling to the floor, in the corners, to create a wedding look in an ordinary room. Or, hang them against a wall, and hang them side-by-side, to create a backdrop for the wedding photos.

Make a beautiful feather boa topiary by starting with a large Styrofoam ball. Push a wooden dowel into the ball and glue it in place. Cut a second ball in half and glue half of it inside the chosen plant pot. Push the stick into it and glue it in place. Now begin apply dots of hot glue to the ball, starting at the bottom near the stick, and winding around and around until you get to the top. Unwind some of the boa into the pot to cover the ball and finish the look.

Make a wreath for the door of the chapel by using a Styrofoam wreath shape and a boa. Glue the end of the boa to the inside hole of the Styrofoam. Go up, over the edge, down the back, and through the hole again. Continue in this manner until the wreath is covered. You can glue on silver balls, tiny wedding bells, small, silk flowers or other embellishments. Hang the wreath by cutting a length of wide ribbon, putting one end through the wreath hole, then bringing the ends together. Tack it to the surface you want.

Take an ordinary pillar candle, stand it on the table, and wrap a length of feather boa around it. This creates an elegant look for very little money. Or, create a zigzag effect with the boa, down the length of a rectangular reception table, then set candles – in glass containers – here and there along the boa. With this design you can decorate the tables elegantly in minutes.

Feather boas aren’t expensive but they sure are pretty. What was meant to be a child’s plaything is also ideal to use for wedding décor. With a boa a mere dollar you can afford to decorate tables, candles, the door and much more. Your guests will be impressed!
