Fast Food Review: The Pizza Hut Buffet

The Pizza Hut buffet can provide a lot of food without putting much of a dent in your wallet. But most Pizza Huts don’t offer the lunch buffet. Where can you find one? How much does it cost and what kinds of items will you find there? This review will answer all of those questions and more.

How to find a Pizza Hut Buffet
The hardest part of enjoying a Pizza Hut buffet is finding one. Perhaps because buffets aren’t big money generators, Pizza Hut’s website does not advertise which of its locations offer the buffet. You can find a list of nearby locations on the company’s website. From there, you may have to go down the list and call each establishment until you find one with a buffet.

If you do locate one, make sure to ask for its operating hours. Some customers have reported walking into a Pizza Hut and being offered the buffet, only to find out that the buffet shuts down ten minutes later. Typical buffet hours seem to be about 11:30 am to 1:30 pm, but they may vary by location.

Cost of the buffet
I’ve visited two Pizza Hut buffets and seen advertisements for many more. Some of the stores had banners advertising the lunch for as little as $4.95, but I paid $7.95 for the service at a Pizza Hut somewhere in the northeast (I believe it was upstate New York.) That cost did not include a drink, so if you prefer to drink anything other than water, add another dollar or two.

Recently I had my second Pizza Hut buffet experience at the location at 1601 N Western Ave. in Chicago. I wouldn’t have expected to find a buffet so close to my home in the city, but I was pleasantly surprised. Not only that, but the cost here was only $6.95, or just $7.50 including tax.

Food items available in the buffet
The two Pizza Hut buffets I have seen both offered five or six different kinds of pizza on a rotating basis, including pepperoni, thin crust cheese, thick crust sausage, jalapeno, and ham and pineapple. They also offered a rotini pasta dish and breadsticks with unlimited marinara sauce.

I was disappointed not to see cheese sticks but excited to see cinnamon sticks. The sticky, gooey dessert was so good I ended up eating four or five.

They also had a salad bar with lettuce, carrots, tomatoes, cucumbers, cheese, bacon bits and several types of dressings, plus a bowl of fresh pineapple bits. Normally I avoid salads at buffets because I want to get my money’s worth from the more expensive foods, but at the Pizza Hut buffet I find that fruits and fresh veggies can serve as a great chaser between bites of the more greasy food items.

Summary
The most important question for me at any buffet is: Did I get my money’s worth? At less than eight dollars, the Pizza Hut buffet provides great bang for the buck.
