Easy to Make Homemade St. Patrick’s Day Leprechaun Hat

A leprechaun hat is a great addition to your wardrobe on St. Patrick’s Day. You can easily make yourself a leprechaun hat to wear for a party or just for a St. Patrick’s Day dinner. A leprechaun hat is like a top hat that is green with a black band around the base and a yellow buckle on the front of the hat. A leprechaun hat is a nice project for kids to make.

To make a homemade Leprechaun hat you need:

A clean round ice cream bucket or a round popcorn bucket for the main part of the hat. Make sure the bucket will fit properly on your head like a hat. The bucket you use is the most important part of your leprechaun hat so make sure it fits your head before you turn it into a hat.

Some large sheets of green construction paper.

Some black and yellow construction paper.

A scissors, pencil, clear tape or glue.

First put your round bucket upside down and cover the bottom with some green construction paper and attach it to the sides of the bucket with some tape. Then take more green construction paper and cover the sides of the bucket so the entire bucket is covered with construction paper. Tape the green construction paper in place. You can also glue the paper in place if you prefer.

For a brim you can take a circle of green paper that is larger then the open end of the bucket. Place the open end of the bucket in the center of the circle and lightly trace the bucket. Cut on the line you made and attach it with tape to the opening on the bucket to make a brim.

You will need a black strap on the hat for a hat band. Cut a strip of black construction paper that is about an inch wide and glue or tape it in place on the hat. Then take the yellow construction paper and cut out a buckle shape and glue or tape in onto the black strap on the front of the leprechaun hat.

Let the glue dry before you wear your leprechaun hat.

This hat can be made to wear at a St. Patrick’s Day party or just for a St. Patrick’s Day dinner. Kids can make a leprechaun hat and pretend they are leprechauns. You can make a hat for everyone at your St. Patrick’s Day celebration.
