DIY: Easy Landscaping Ideas for Fall

After a beautiful summer landscape, we commonly feel impelled to continue the beauty right on into fall. Sometimes, that can be hard to do. With Fall fast approaching, colder temperatures moving in, beautiful summer plants begin to die down in preparation for winter dormancy. Don’t let the fall landscaping get your down. Here are some easy landscaping ideas for fall.

Landscaping in the fall is just as fun and rewarding as spring and summer. Just like plants that only flower in spring and summer, there are several landscape plants that only flower in the fall. One easy landscaping idea for fall is to plant mums. Mums are very hardy and are a great addition to any fall landscape. They are, for the most part, hardy and can take low temperatures and even a few frosts. Be the envy on your block with a beautiful fall landscape using mums. In addition to mums, you can add Coleus, Sedum, Firethorn, Snap Dragons, Autumn Sage, Aster, Pansies and Ornamental Kale to add stunning beauty to your landscape.

In addition to planting hardy plants, you can spruce up your lawn using beautiful trees. Fall landscapes are easily designed using beautiful trees the have rich colors in the fall. For instance sugar maples, birch, ash, redbud and hickory trees will put on a stunning show in fall. They are easiest to maintain but yet have great appeal. So if you are ready for a break as well as your summer flowers let nature take over with a fall landscape using beautiful color changing trees.

Another easy landscaping idea for fall is to decorate. Yes, with Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas coming, give your green thumb a break and use ornamental pieces to give you a stunning fall landscape. With fall being the ‘harvest season’ enjoy it to your advantage. Use hay bales, pine straw, pumpkins, gourds, cornstalks and potted plants to design a beautiful Fall themed landscape.

Fall is a great time to use your creativity! Since there aren’t as many possibilities for a fall landscape as there are for spring and summer, you get to be creative and enjoy a burst of new energy. Do the same for your plant and give them new energy. One easy fall landscape ideas is to take any plants that may be injured by the cold or frost and plant them in beautiful pots of various, shapes, sizes or colors. You can mix them up or stick with a specific theme. Create a container garden. They are easier to protect in the winter because you are able to bring them indoors or cover them easier using frames and other materials to prevent frost damage.

While these are only a few ideas for Fall Landscape, the possibilities can be endless with a little creativity. Don’t let the thought of cold weather keep you back from a stunning fall landscape. Use your imagination and bring out the best in your landscape and make your neighbors envious. Check with local nurseries as well. This is the time they start trying to change over stock and you can find some great deals there for plants, containers and other garden accessory.
