Dior’s DiorShow Mascara is as Close to Perfect as I Have Ever Used

I think every female on the planet has been through the great mascara hunt at one time or another in their lives. Even me. In fact, I think I’ve been hunting my entire 49 years for that perfect tube. You know the one: Easy to apply, doesn’t clump, doesn’t smear, dries fast, looks fabulous, and doesn’t cost a small fortune. I am convinced this critter does not exist. DiorShow is the latest in a long line of wannabes. I say wannabe, but really this is the best mascara I have ever used.

Now, we all know the name Dior. It conjurs visions of the perfect everything. It’s classy, it’s expensive, and anything with the Dior name is bound to be the best, right? Well…. not quite true. Almost, but just not quite.

They claim that this here DiorShow Mascara will give you the beautiful lashes of all those glorious-yet-too-thin runway models. Almost true. I like the brush. It’s bigger than most mascara applicators so it holds more. And it does not clump at all.

It doesn’t go on real wet either. I just really hate having the top lashes smear on my eyelid while I’m contorting my face to do the lower lids. You know what I’m talking about here, ladies. I don’t have that problem with this DiorShow line at all. In fact, at first I had the opposite problem. It seemed a bit too dry the first few times I used it. Now I know that this is supposed to be that way. After using it awhile things noticeably improved. It’s still dryer than most, which is very good, yet it is just wet enough to easily put on a nice coating. You see, with this type of drier mascara, you don’t have that problem with it migrating to your eyelid if you don’t keep your face contorted long enough. It is dry enough within seconds to do the next eye. I have come to love this.

The brush is purported to curl your lashes to dizzying lengths… err no. I do notice a little bit of curl there after putting this one on, but nothing to do hand springs over.

They don’t mention lastability in the ad they have at dior.com, but this is something important to me. I am happy to report that this one does tend to stay nice longer than other brands I’ve tried (Maybeline, Estee Lauder, a zillion others). It is not, however, waterproof… but then it doesn’t claim to be. Not the one I buy, at any rate. Dior does have one that is waterprooof though if that is what you want. I just stay away from that one because I hate having to use eye makeup removers.

The tube (if you’re into this sorta thang) is pretty nifty looking. That is to say that it looks damned expensive… and it is. It’s a pretty number in silver and black with Dior written all over the thing. Sure to impress those shallow folks who are easily impressed. heh. Personally, I just bought it the first time because I needed a new tube of mascara and it was there at the time while wandering aimlessly about the airport waiting for my next flight. Yeah, I’m one of those boredom shoppers.

I have bought several tubes of the DiorShow mascara since my initial purchase, and really my only complaint is that after about 3 months it becomes worthless. Yeah yeah… I know. you should buy a new one before that anyway because of bacterial build-up in any mascara, but I never have. Now I’m kinda forced to do it. I should count that as a good thing…

I’m going with 5 strong stars for DiorShow, even at that hefty $23 per tube. If you’re fed up with the others, go ahead and give this one a trial run. I buy black, but you can go with either brown or blue if you like. As it stands now, I will likely stay with DiorShow for quite some time..
