Diarrhea 101: Review of Imodium A-D Liquid

If you get a chance, stop by Imodium’s web site.(www.imodium.com) There are plenty of coupon offers, and product sections, but my favorite part of the site is Diarrhea 101. Here you can open the syllabus, and learn from Dr.Clunker about the many aspects of Diarrhea Studies. I thought I got a B.S. in B.S. from my college, but obviously I was wrong. This company has guts to post this information, but who on Earth would like to learn Myths vs. Facts involving this medical condition?

When Diarrhea visits, I want instant relief. I don’t want to learn why I’m dealing with it, as this is a debilitating condition. It prevents you from being a productive member of society, and forces you to spend more time in your office than usual. The company of McNeil Pharmaceuticals and Consumer Products, is the manufacturer of Imodium AD liquid. I have written a review about their caplets, which I’m a huge fan of. The liquid also is effective, but has a little taste issue that’s a problem.

This stuff is nasty, and there’s no nice way of putting it. I’m convinced that the participants on the television show Fear Factor, would run away from this formula if offered on the show. Many years ago comedian Dennis Leary, referred to Nyquil’s flavor as “Green Death.” I think that’s nicer than any term I can come up with here, because at least Nyquil has been a friend to those without a nearby liquor store. The taste of this product is probably closest to spoiled Bleu Cheese. I’ve almost gagged when drinking this, and considering the adult dose is 4 teaspoons, the taste stays with you for a long time.

It takes care of business fast though, which is a plus when dealing with diarrhea. Most of the time, one dose takes care of a average bout. For extreme cases, I’ve been back to normal in under twenty four hours. This product does exactly what it promises to do, and its okay for people 6-100 years old to use. The dosages are obviously smaller for little ones, and for anyone under six, ask a doctor for assistance.

The active ingredient is Loperamide HC1. The inactive ingredients are: Alcohol(0.5% sorry, even though this stuff tastes like Jagermeister it won’t get you drunk), Benzoic Acid, Citric Acid, Flavors, Glycerin, Propylene Glycol, Purified Water, Sodium Benzoate, Sorbitol, and Sucrose. I’ve had no side effects from any of these ingredients, other than the aftertaste and taking care of the medical problem.

Other than the flavor, I like this product a lot. It helps ease the stress and pain associated with diarrhea, and can be purchased at all grocery chains and drug stores.(Not the one on the corner, ie. the street pharmacy) The company can be reached at 1-800-NO-CRAP. Just kidding, its 1-800-962-5357, and you can even email them online at their web site. I also like some of their suggestions, which include drinking clear fluids to prevent dehydration. Does vodka count?
