Detroit Lions 2010 NFL Draft Grade

Welcome to my 2010 NFL draft grade for the Detroit Lions. I will offer analysis of the Lions draft picks by each round and give Detroit’s 2010 NFL draft grade at the end of this article. Click my name to see other 2010 NFL draft team grades as well as more football articles. Coming into the 2010 NFL draft I felt the Lions team needs were offensive and defensive linemen and defensive backs. But being the Detroit Lions they really needed everything but a quarterback. Carry on for my analysis of the Detroit Lions 2010 NFL draft.

Detroit Lions first round picks in the 2010 NFL draft

Ndamukong Suh the big defensive tackle out of Nebraska was widely considered to be the best player in the 2010 NFL draft. Suh has the size, strength and quickness to be a special player for the Lions. I just hope he doesn’t join a couple of other defensive tackles on the top ten draft busts of all time list.

Jahvid Best the running back out of California was drafted in the first round of the 2010 NFL draft by the Lions after a trade to get Minnesota’s pick. I had Jahvid Best ranked 3rd on my rankings of the running backs in the 2010 NFL draft, which you can read here. Best has skills but he also has a history of injury. I felt the Lions should have gone with an offensive lineman here. This pick lowers the draft grade for the Detroit Lions.

Detroit Lions third round pick in the 2010 NFL draft

Amari Spievey the cornerback out of Iowa will be given every chance to start in the Lions suspect secondary. Spievey is a solid player with good instincts and I think this was a good pick by the Lions.

Detroit Lions fourth round pick in the 2010 NFL draft

Jason Fox the 6ft 7 offensive tackle out of Miami fills a need for the 2010 NFL Lions. I am not sure if Fox is NFL ready but he could well be a backup in 2010 while he learns the ropes.

Detroit Lions seventh round picks in the 2010 NFL draft

Willie Young a 6ft 5 defensive end from North Carolina was the first of two seventh round picks for the Lions. If the Lions can motivate Young to show up on every play, then this may have been a draft steal.

Tim Toone is Mr. Irrelevant for the 2010 NFL draft, as the last player taken. Toone is a short and light wide receiver out of Weber State. If Toone makes the team it will be as a returner in my opinion.

2010 NFL Draft Grade for the Detroit Lions

I give the Lions a B just because I think Suh and Spievey are that good of draft picks. I still would have liked to see a higher pick on an offensive lineman to protect Matthew Stafford.
