Demi Lovato: The Best Songs Off of “Unbroken”

To be honest, I have no idea who Demi Lovato is. I think I heard something about her punching a girl and going to rehab, if that was her. I assume she is something that came out of the Disney pop kid machine or a similar setup.

The Demi Lovato album titled “Unbroken” is pop music, a mix of ballad, and dance. I can’t say enough bad things about most of these types of albums, but in this case: the girl has some pipes and somebody plays some beats tweaked a little better than your average tweak on a few of the tracks.

Mostly “Unbroken” is a case of me not becoming a fan of the genre material, but not really able to say it is garbage for being what it is, because it does stand out in the landfill. I spill my haterade on it in some places, but she can wipe most of that off and grasp the positive linings of my critical storm cloud, if she needs to be a darling.

“Skyscraper” is the best song on the album and not because its lyrics are any better than all the other pop machine tripe, but because Demi Lovato has a slight rasp in her voice, pressed into my ears via headphones, it tickles my emotion just right. My song by song notes are below.

“All Night Long”: It’s not great, but it is very bouncy and that actually injects some fun into it. She draws out the chorus well, ala can cast a hook.

“Who’s That Boy”: A girl song thru and thru and she bobbles along well once again, but I choose not to hunt boys with her. Teen girls have at it!

“You’re My Only Shorty”: He’s telling her the “troof.” This song is ridiculous, though perhaps gives some insight into the teenage mind and why they have so much drama in their lives. Tell me I’m your only shorty! I’m telling you the troof! You are my only shorty!

“Together”: Bad attempt at being motivational. The male section is especially bad.

“Lightweight”: Glee much? She belts it out and it borders on yelling, but blows away much of the competition out there.

“Unbroken”: Her power vocals compliment the beats very well.

“Fix A Heart”: The song is kind of boring, she runs it well enough, with a “pouring salt on my cuts” line that has some impressive pout on it. The lyrics are pretty dumb though and you can’t fix stupid like this.

“Hold Up”: A hop around dance floor track that is too strongly teen girl poppy ploppy, with the mechanically tinkered vocals warbled in spots.

“Mistake”:
Bland. Nothing more to say about a bland sound the same.

“Give Your Heart A Break”: A tight pop sound, but yelled out instead of sung, and ugho.

“Skyscraper”: At first I thought she was pushing the vocals too much, but then she gets to you. Ladies, get your hankies out, because this girl sneaks the emotion into this motivational track about someone trying to tear you down and whether it makes you feel weak or strong, there may slide a tear.

“In Real Life”: The catchy beat could have been capitalized on better for my taste, but it’s a radio friendly head from side to side sway along chick flick of a song.

“My Love Is Like A Star”: A decent pop soul ballad. She lays down the right flavors in all the right spots.

“For The Love Of A Daughter”: The dreary-ness may be identifiable for some, but it gets too sappy for me. Well, that and I’m a son not a daughter.
