Decorating a Brown and White Traditional Kitchen

Brown and white might seem like boring hues, but they are anything but lackluster, especially in a traditional kitchen. Cabinetry and furnishings in a deep rich shade of brown can be lovely. White contrasts beautifully with the dark hue, and it coordinates with the shine that naturally emanates from the surface when it is hit by natural or artificial light. It can look rich, exquisite and very inviting.

The last kitchen that I designed was chocolate brown and lily white. The results were stylish and very impressive. My client selected dark oak cabinets, deep brown Corian countertops, a white island and beautiful Pergo flooring. It was my job to come up with the finishing touches that would make the traditional kitchen warm and inviting. I wanted to find ways to add life with color.

Display Green Plant Life in White Milk Glass

White milk glass is traditional collectible glassware, and when decorating a brown and white kitchen, it is a lovely addition. When decorating my client’s brown and white traditional kitchen, I filled the tiered platter with high quality flower heads in lavender and blue. It looked amazing.

Create a Focal Point on a Single Wall

When decorating a kitchen or any room in the home, choose wall art that will become the focal point of the space. With the approval of my client, I chose an over sized work of sculpted metal for a bare kitchen wall. It was comprised of a brown planter filled with blue and violet hydrangeas. It was one of the most beautiful wall hangings that I had ever found, and it looked great on the bare tan wall. The colors brought more attention to the blooms on the tiered platter. With the deep brown cabinets, flooring and other decor, my client’s traditional kitchen looked absolutely amazing.
