Danity Kane’s Welcome to the Dollhouse: Strong Songs with A Little Filler

Danity Kane is made up of female vocalists Aubrey O’Day, Dawn Richard, Shannon Bex, Wanita “D. Woods” Woodgette and Aundrea Fimbres. The group is also known as the winners of Making The Band Season 3. Their women’s debut, self-titled album went platinum, and now the pressure is on for Danity Kane on its sophomore album, Welcome To The Dollhouse. Will the group be able to beat expectations?

The first single off of Welcome To The Dollhouse is the Stereotypes produced Damaged. The song features a pulsating beat however the track was not the strongest track on the album. The song however is solid and showcases Danity Kane’s improved vocal ability. The high point definitely of the track is the bridge.

Pretty Boy is a collaboration between Nate “Danjahandz” Hill and the production team The Clutch. The song definitely has an 80’s hip hop feel to it. The song is just decent however and just does not have much substantive to offer.

2 Of You is one of the stronger tracks on the album. The song has a decidedly retro feel to it. The bridge on the track is incredibly solid and Aubrey adds a very Fergie inspired rap to the track.

Strip Tease is another dance heavy track featuring Timbaland inspired beat boxing by his protégé Danjahandz. The song is solid and one of the better dance tracks on the album. However the song feels like a left over from Britney Spears’ last album Blackout.

Bad Girl the track pretty much sums up the direction of the group. The song is an up-tempo dance track however it is just forgettable. The song does not really do anything whatsoever and is just filler. Missy Elliott joins the track with a fairly solid verse however it does not save the track.

Lights Out sounds like another track that was a leftover from Britney Spears’ Blackout album. The song is solid yet not very memorable.

Poetry is a solid ballad. The track showcases the groups growing vocal ability. The song is somewhat similar to their biggest hit on their debut album Ride For You. The song melodically and vocally is very strong.

Key To Your Heart is a very interesting song sonically. The beat is very complex and unique. The song is one of the better tracks on the album and very refreshing compared to some of the other material on the album.

On Ecstasy the girls are joined by Rick Ross over a beat produced by The Runners. The song is very catchy and will appeal to Danity Kane fans from their debut album. The song is more urban than most of the other tracks on the album.

Sucka For Love is a fairly solid R&B; mid-tempo track. The song features nice vocal harmonies and solid vocals from Danity Kane.

Secret Place (Interlude) is surprisingly one of the strongest tracks on the album. The interlude is extremely well produced and performed.

Is Anybody Listening is a solid mid-tempo track. The vocals are stronger than the beat which is very distracting.

Ain’t Going features fellow Making The Band contestants Day 26 and Donnie J. The song is also the theme song for the Making The Band television show. The song is fairly solid and features vocals from all the contestants unified.

Welcome To The Dollhouse is a fairly solid sophomore album. The effort features several very strong songs and some filler. Welcome To The Dollhouse gets 7.5 out of 10.
