Comparison Review: Honda Accord Versus Toyota Camry

The Toyota Camry and the Honda Accord are two of the most popular cars in America. Though they are in the same price range and offer many similar features, the Toyota Camry and the Honda Accord have the potential to meet the needs of two very different kinds of drivers. What kind of driver are you and should you be driving a Honda Accord or a Toyota Camry?

Pricing and Model Options
The Toyota Camry starts at $18,720 for a basic model. The Honda Accord starting price is slightly higher, at $20,360. There are five different Toyota Camry models, including a Hybrid that is more difficult to come by throughout the United States. The higher end basic Toyota Camry model, the Hybrid, will run you at least $25,350. There are only two different Honda Accord models, however, the 2008 Accord Coupe is a two door sportier model, of which Toyota doesn’t offer an equivalent. The sportier Honda Accord Coupe starts at just $21,860 for a basic model. The Honda Accords are both readily available throughout the United States.

Style and Design
The Toyota Camry models are designed with a cleaner, more professional look. Their lines are more rounded and may appeal more towards slightly older or more professional customers who care about their car looking expensive and well-maintained. The Honda Accord, on the other hand, offers a sleeker and sportier design, with the front pointier, instead of round. It may appeal more towards serious drivers and car aficionados than a professional clientele.

Interior, Safety, and Technical Specs
According to Honda, the 2008 Honda Accord Coupe offers a “268-hp Engine (V-6), variable cylinder management for quicker acceleration and fuel efficiency, and a lower center of gravity and new independent multi-link rear suspension enhances handling.” They also offer a navigation system for an additional price, but a luxury, leather-trimmed interior is standard. The Honda Accord Coupe is trying to meet the needs of a sporty car clientele with these features. The Toyota Camry models, on the other hand, offer V-6 engine options, but they increase the pricing of the model by as much as $3,000. They also offer vehicle stability control with traction control as an additional option. With the exception of these and a few additional items, the interior, technicals, and safety features of the two cars are comparable.

The Decision
If you are young, single, and care about a powerful, sporty car, the Honda Accord Coupe is the best choice, offering you the most bang for your buck. With a two-door manual option and a bigger engine, it can appeal to a younger clientele. However, if the size of your engine doesn’t make a difference, and you are looking for a reliable and sleek four door option, the Toyota Camry offers more choices for smaller price tag. Ultimately, the decision will come down to personal preference. The Honda Accord is more of a driver’s car, while the Toyota Camry is geared more towards families and professionals.

Whichever car you select, know that both are popular and reliable models, with strong companies behind them. Check out both cars at their respective websites, Toyota and Honda.
