Comparing Three Popular Clothing Brands for Babies

Just like how your clothes differ in sizing from company to company, baby clothes do, too! Some run wide, some run petite. Depending on the size and shape of your baby, find out which brand sells the best attire for your little one.

Garanimals

Quality: Garanimals comes in a close second right behind Carter’s for quality thickness and durability. Their clothes are made of a thick 100 percent cotton material.

Style: I would definitely rank these clothes third for style. Their patterns are pretty cute, but they can have that “so cute it’s making me sick” appearance — as in rainbow butterflies with big, cutesy heart-shaped eyes with the words “Happy” strung across the top with a trail of stars and hearts. It’s just a little much at times.

Fit: Garanimals run large, there’s definitely no argument there. If you have a large and wide baby with thicker thighs, consider buying more clothes made by this company. They tend to swallow my petite daughter up and it looks I could fit two Lillians inside there at times!

Price: Sold by Walmart, these clothes tend to run in the middle price range. I believe I usually pay about $3 to $4 for a long-sleeved onesie, and I’ve seen 3-piece outfits for $7 or $8.

Carter’s

Quality: Carter’s wins when it comes to quality. The onesies are also made of 100 percent cotton, but with a little more thickness than Garanimals and definitely much thicker than Gerber.

Style: Another win for this brand! Though Carter’s also have over-the-top cute tops with smiling watermelons, there is also some nice patterned tops as well with stripes, weaves polka-dots, and other patterned prints. Their selection is much wider as well and they even have their own website dedicated to selling baby clothes.

Fit: These clothes have an average fit. It is perfect for babies not too big or small.

Price: You’ve probably already guessed it, but this brand runs the highest of the three. Don’t worry, you’re not just “paying for the name,” but you’re paying for nice style and good quality. While glancing over their website, the average one piece runs about $8 to $10.

Gerber

Quality: Gerber has some pretty thin clothes. They’re almost see-through!

Style: If you like very basic tees for your baby, Gerber may be the brand to buy. Most of their onesies are classic plain white, but there are a few with with simple embroidered pictures on the chest or little flowers printed everywhere. I do like the simplicity of the design.

Fit: Their outfits run so small it’s almost funny. The 12-month onesies look like they could fit a newborn. It clings very tightly to my baby who is on the 5th percentile for weight and height, but I do enjoy the “fitted” look every once in a while since almost every other brand acts like a tent on her!

Price: Gerber clothes are cheap. You can buy 5 onesies for $8 at Walmart.

Depending on what style, quality, or price you are looking for, I hope this comparison chart helps you decide which brand of clothes are best for your baby. It also never hurts to try some of each.
