Compare Dog Food: The Secrets Behind Choosing the Best Dog Food

The majority of dog owners compare dog food to work out the cheapest brands, or the ones with the best quality. When searching for the best dog food for your pet, you should consider the following things:

What is the base ingredient of the food? You should ensure that the food that you are feeding your dog doesn’t contain too many preservatives or artificial ingredients. These could provide some nasty consequences for your dog like stomach upset. You should check to see that the dog food doesn’t contain cheap fillers, like corn, and that it does contain plenty of good quality meats such as chicken, liver, lamb and turkey. Steer clear of by-products!

What is the cost of the food? If you are on a tight budget, it probably isn’t the best idea to go out and buy the most expensive brand you can find. Bigger cost doesn’t always mean better quality! Work out how many cans or bags of dog food you will need per month or week and then work out if you can afford to pay for it or not. If you are on a really tight budget, it may be worth you looking into home made dog food.

Do the nutritional values add up to those recommended by Vets? There are recommended guidelines that should be followed and your dogs diet should consist of a ratio of 40:30:30. The first being meat, the second being vegetable and the third being starch. You need to make sure that your dog is being fed the right amounts and any good brand of dog food will tell you on the packaging if it follows this or not!

There are so many brands and types of dog food out there it really pays to compare dog food before deciding on one particular type or brand. There are websites that compare dog food for you, saving you the hard work of finding it all out for yourself. They compare things such as price, ingredients, brands, and much more.

It would be a good idea to check out the history of them while you compare dog food. You should check and see if they have had to recall any products for whatever reason, and if they have had any bad press. Obviously, if they have made a mistake with their products once, they may do it again, and it’s not worth risking the health of your dog!

You need to make your own mind up about the food you are feeding your pet, but you should take into account things that have been said, or things you may have researched about the brand you are buying. If you do not compare dog food and instead buy the best looking one or the cheapest one on the shelf, you may find that you could be feeding your dog something not good for them or paying too much! Whatever you decide to feed your dog, do it for your own reasons!
