Coming Straight from Amy’s Kitchen: Organic Frozen Meals

Amy’s Kitchen started out as a company in the family’s house and barn back in 1987. The goal was to make a living off of frozen organic vegetarian meals which could be carried in health food stores and grocery stores. Amy’s first creation was vegetable pot pie, and since it’s inception, over 88 other meals have been created. The company has remained family owned and operated and in comparison to other companies that provide similar products, Amy’s Kitchen has remained #1 in popularity and sales.

The great thing about Amy’s kitchen is that there are many choices from their line that cater to people with restricted diets. This includes not only the vegetarians of the world, but also people sensitive to gluten, dairy, sodium, sugar and also people who are trying to lose weight.

A large majority of the meals are gluten free such as the Black Bean Vegetable Enchillada (corn tortillas, tofu, black beans, vegetables), Tofu Rancheros (tofu scrambled with vegetables and topped with salsa and cheese), Santa Fe Enchilada Bowl (Corn tortillas, rice, beans, tofu, vegetables and Jack cheese), and the Baked Ziti Bowl (Rice noodles, peas, soy-based mozerella and ricotta cheeses, and pasta sauce), only to name a few.

The new line of reduced sodium products have 50% less sodium and include products such as Vegetable Lasagna, Black Bean Enchilada, Veggie Loaf (Vegetarian Meat Loaf), and a number of Amy’s soups. For those who are lactose sensitive, there is a line of vegetarian burgers that are lactose free, a line of pies (Shepherd’s, Vegetable, Mexican Tamale), and a number of pizzas (Soy Cheese, Roasted Vegetable- which is delicious, and Rice Crust Spinach Pizza).

For me, the products that caught my eye the most were the specialty pizzas. There’s nothing I enjoy more than a good pizza, and I was thrilled to find out that I could now make a frozen pizza that was made with wholesome, organic ingredients. I no longer had to feel like a frozen pizza was a ‘treat’ that I was being ‘bad’ by eating.

The Meditteranean Pizza with Cornmeal Crust is really good, and my husband is a big fan of the Rice Crust Spinach Pizza. I usually keep a few frozen meals available for my busy days when I just grab something to heat up for lunch later in the day, and I really enjoyed the Black Bean and Vegetable Enchilada meal, the Pesto Tortellini, and especially the Teriyaki Bowl with tofu, rice, and vegetables.

Amy’s Kitchen is a great option when shopping for your freezer. You don’t have to worry about searching through what you have to find something that’s not loaded with preservatives, and artificial ingredients. These meals heat up so well, you’ll feel like you spent hours cooking them from scratch.

The price is moderate; you can expect to pay a little bit more for the ingredients you’re receiving. The cans of soup are very reasonable, and the line of “Bowls” aren’t too bad either.

The pizzas vary, and tend to be around $7 – $8, but I must say, they are worth it. They’re healthy, they taste great, and the have ingredients that are good for you. Who would have thought you could find that on a pizza!?
