Colorado B&B;’s: Apple Orchard Inn in Durango, CO

Only 15 minutes from town and a 20-minute drive north of Durango Mountain Resort, you will find the Apple Orchard Inn. The inn provides dazzling views of the mountains, and the award winning landscaping complete with trout ponds, waterfalls, and streams.

The Apple Orchard Inn is located in the stunning Animas Valley 8 miles north of Durango at Hermosa. A county road lined with fruit orchards and historic farms takes you to the inn. Upon arrival, you will see the large farmhouse-style home that has four quest rooms and six cottages.

The main house has a sitting room with comfortable furniture, a river rock fireplace, and original artwork. Large windows to view the spectacular scenery and Brazilian cherry wood floors are all located on the first floor. Breakfast each morning can be served in the dining room or on the patio where you can enjoy the mountain scenery.

The main houseguest rooms are all decorated uniquely. There are four quest rooms in the main house. They are named the Rome Beauty, JonaGold, Granny Smith, and the McIntosh. Do you notice the apple theme running along?

The Rome Beauty – this room is dominated by a river rock fireplace. There are two wingback chairs and a king-size bed. The private bath includes a whirlpool bathtub.

The JonaGold – with views of the old apple orchard and the cliffs of the Animas Valley the room is unique. It includes a queen size bed, sleeper sofa and wicker chairs.

The Granny Smith – This room faces east and allows a view of the inn’s garden, ponds and the eastern cliffs and mountains. It also includes a queen-sized bed, sleeper sofa and wicker furniture.

The McIntosh – located on the north side of the main house it is the coolest room in the summer months. The view from this room is of the north mountains. It has a king-sized bed and two large wing backed chairs.

The private cottages are perfect for a romantic getaway or a Colorado honeymoon. All the cottages have covered porches with swings or rocking chairs that face the central pond and garden area.

There are many summer and winter activities available to enjoy in the area. Year round, the Historic Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad takes visitors up the Animas River Valley, which allows for some of the most breathtaking scenery in Colorado. The Mesa Verde National Park is only about an hour from the Apple Orchard Inn. There you will find cliff dwellings and a museum. These are just a few of the area attractions.
