Charlotte, NC Offers Great Burgers

Looking for a better than average run of the mill burger in Charlotte, NC? Burger joints are a dime a dozen but there are three places in Charlotte that stand out in the crowd.

Bad Daddy’s Burger Bar in the heart of Dilworth offers something for everyone from the young to the old. Their beef is 100% all natural, with no artificial ingredients, no hormones and no antibiotics and they also offer a gluten free menu as well. What makes Bad Daddy’s so special is you can build your own burger, choosing your bread, your meat and any topping. They offer Asian pork, black bean, turkey and of course the all American beef burger. With toppings ranging from the usual; chili and slaw you can choose from avocado, jalapeno bacon, kalamata olives, rosemary ham, portabella cap and many more. My favorite build a burger would be American beef on wheat with portabella cap and brie served with a side of their famous Crispy Onion Straws and a nice glass of sweet iced tea. Parking is limited so try this wonderful family friendly place but just not at rush hour. Bad Daddy’s has two other locations, Huntersville and Ballantyne.

Comet Grill located near downtown Charlotte, NC has been serving good food and fun since 1996. Not only will you enjoy a fresh hand pattied burger with your choice of side, you may also find some of the best local live talent playing on any given night. Saturday is $5.00 burger night, so whether you choose the All American, Patty Melt, Black Bean Veggie or my favorite the Carolina Panther, you will not be disappointed in the portion or the taste. The Carolina Panther burger is blackened with blue cheese crumbles and I always order mine with a side salad, just so I don’t feel quite as guilty for indulging my carnivore lust. The place is small but the parking is great. Sitting on the patio, munching a burger and sipping a beer while listening to some great music is just what the doctor ordered.

Lupie’s Café located in the Elizabeth neighborhood of Charlotte, NC is the most down to earth burger joint of the three. The burger menu is simple with a choice of a Lupie’s Burger, Chili & Slaw Burger or Vegetarian Burger served on your choice of Kaiser roll or onion roll. Don’t let the simplicity make you think of mediocre though for these burgers are plentiful and the menu states, “Poor folks can live on one of these a day”. The quote is true for the price of the Lupie Burger is only $4.75 with your choice of chips or cole slaw. The atmosphere is quite unique with beautiful black and white photos by Byron Baldwin, old posters and signs lining the walls to the old timey Schwinn bicycle hanging over the bar. The wait staff is welcoming and parking is ample. You may have to wait in line during the rush hour but the food is worth the wait. If you get lucky you might even be able to pass a few words with Lupie herself. Lupie’s Café has one other location in Huntersville.
