More and more of us are getting cell phones every day. The estimates say that world wide about 2.5 billion cell phones are in used right now. That number keeps rising daily. More and more of us are also updating our phones every day, too. Many cell phone companies offer many incentives to upgrade to their newer phones, plus we just love the new gadgets. Yet, what are we doing with the old phones?
If you ever tried to get an older phone activated, you probably all ready know it is nearly impossible to do. Cell phone carriers once us to buy their new equipment. For that reason, the old cell phones a lot of the time end up in the trash or in the junk drawer. But there are better things you can do with those old cell phones. You could recycle them.

Here are a few organizations to consider.
Recelluar. This company is based in Michigan. They get about 75,000 used phones a week. About 60 percent of these phones are reusable. The remaining phones are then used for parts or sold as scrap. What do they do with the phones? They refurbish the phones and then resell them. About 55 to 60 percent of the phones are sold outside the US to places like Bolivia, Jamaica, Kenya or the Ukraine, places where it is hard to find cell phones. The company works with charities such as The March of Dime. The charities that help collect the phone receive anywhere from $2.00 to $10.00 per phone they collect.
