Change Your IP Address with Comcast Cable Internet Connection

For whatever reason, there may come a time when you will want to change your computer ip address. You may want to guard yourself from spam or you may have been banned from a particular website. Websites track their visitors by logging ip addresses. Your computer’s ip address is its own personal identification. There are different ways to change an ip address depending on what type of internet connection you have. Here is how to change your ip address if you have a cable internet connection. I do believe this works for all cable internet connections, not just Comcast. The entire process takes about 1 minute to complete.

Release Current ip Address

The first thing you need to do to change your ip address with a cable internet connection is release your current ip address. To do this, go to “run” in your start menu and type in “cmd” then hit “enter. This will bring up a black window. Type in “ipconfig” at the flashing cursor and hit “enter” on your keyboard just so you can see what your current ip address is. In the same black window type in “ipconfig/release” and hit “enter”. This will release your current ip address. Keep this window open because you will need to use it at the end.

Access “Local Area Connection” Window

After releasing your ip address you need to go to your “control panel” in the start menu and click on “Network and Internet Connections”. This will bring up another window where you will then need to click on “Network Connections”. After doing this you will be taken to another window where you will now need to click “Local Area Connection”. This is where you will change your ip address.

Change ip Address

You should now be in a window that has a “General” and “Support” tab at the top. Under the “General” tab click on “properties”. This will bring up another window. In the new window, go down to “Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)” and click the “properties” tab below it. In the next window select “Use the following ip address” and enter “111.111.111.111” into the ip address box. After doing this just right click your mouse into the “Subnet mask” box and it will generate it’s own numbers. Click the “OK” button at the bottom of the window and then click “Close” in the next window. Your “Local Area Connection Status” window will appear. At this point you want to go back under your “General” tab and click on “properties” again. Select “Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)” and click the “properties” tab below it like you did before. At the next window instead of choosing “Use the following ip address” you are going to select “Obtain an IP address automatically” and click the “OK” button. At the next window click “Close” and your new ip address will be assigned within seconds!

All you need to do now is go back to the black window that you started with in the beginning, type in “ipconfig/renew” and voila! Your new ip address will appear.
