BROOKSIDE Dark Chocolate Pomegranate

BROOKSIDE Dark Chocolate Pomegranate is not your typical candy. It is in a 2 pound- package and cost $9.99 at Costco. I seldom buy candy. I think the picture of the opened pomegranate with the chocolate beans in front of it helped entice me.

I did the typical checks after I read the disclaimer on the front, that told me it was masterfully prepared sweetened real fruit juice pieces (keep reading, even though this sounds phony), using pomegranate and other select concentrated fruit juices, dipped in the extra creamy pure dark chocolate, creating a decadent taste sensation. To the top of the bag is a positive health claim, “Natural Source of Flavanol Antioxidants.” Okay, the world knows antioxidants are good, because every ad related to health screams it at us. On the back of the bag is the explanation that pure dark chocolate is a natural source of flavanol antioxidants.

A serving size is 20 pieces (these are small candies, slightly larger than a coffee bean). There are approximately 23 servings in a bag. Before I go further, for those who like to make candy mixes, the price is reasonable.

Total fat is 7g: saturated fat counts for 4g of that. There is no trans fat. Nothing on the Nutrition Facts lets me know what constitutes the other 3g of fat. Cholesterol is listed as 5mg, and sodium 50mg. Total carbohydrates are 29g, with dietary fiber accounting for 1g and sugars 26g. There is 1g of protein, as well. A serving will get you 20% of your daily Vitamin C value, and 6% of iron.

Allergy information alerts the consumer to the fact that it contains milk and soy, and may contain traces of wheat, peanuts, cashews, almonds, hazelnuts, and macadamia nuts.

The candy is chewy. The taste of the pomegranate comes through. I have no idea who they think would eat 20 of these critters at one serving (except for kids who sneak into the candy), but 2 was good enough for me. For those of you who are limited to the amount of candy you can consume, give BROOKSIDE Dark Chocolate Pomegranate a try. Do not leave it where the children can find it. They will make short work of it. Adults will be pleased with one or two of the candies, and get the chocolate craving out of the way, in addition to getting the unique taste of pomegranate.

The candy can be used as a decoration on a cake or cupcake, as a special touch on pancakes, mixed with cereal and nuts when making trail mix, or enjoyed as is. I actually give it 5 stars, because of the quality of the chocolate and the wonderful blend of flavor. With holidays coming up, it is a nice addition to the cookies and muffins given as gifts, or a healthier candy in the Christmas stocking.

If you are looking for a different chocolate candy that will allow anyone to savor a bite, consider the BROOKSIDE Dark Chocolate Pomegranate, a product of Canada.
