Bringing Blue Eyeshadow Back

Let’s face it, we aren’t in the age of stirrup pants and clown makeup anymore. We might have thrown away our shoulder pads and leg warmers, but there’s a part of 80s style that’s still alive, well, and trendy today; blue eyeshadow!

Though it’s not worn in a single dark shade up to our eyebrows anymore, many girls and women are donning blue eye makeup with pride. Blue comes in many pretty shades, and it can turn your eyes from drab to glam with just a few strokes of your makeup brush. Using shades of blue that complement your hair and eye color, outfit, and accessories is important, and should be considered when choosing which shade of blue to wear above your pretty peepers when you prepare in the morning.

Properly matching your blue eyeshadow or eyeliner can really make or break your look. For darker eyes, a shade of blue that’s too dark can take the focus off your eyes and draw it instead to any dark circles or corners you might have. That’s completely defeating the purpose of makeup! The best advice for today’s trendy blue eye makeup is to use a dark blue liquid eyeliner and a medium blue just above your eyes on the lids, following it with a lighter, shimmery shade of blue using a small sized brush and stroked lightly up toward the corners.

If you’re using makeup that has sparkles, shimmer, or shine along with the blue powder or pressed powder, it’s important to spread it out evenly. Having clumps or big shimmery spots unevenly blotched on your eyes will look cheap, and refract light in an unattractive, splotchy way. A good way to complement a gentle shimmer on your blue upper eyelids is to use a blue gloss or highlight mascara. Starting by curling your lashes up, and gently apply a dark black first, followed by a pretty blue gloss on the underside of the lashes. Leave your bottom row black for contrast and to further complement the natural color of your eyes in a more stunning way.

It’s important not to overdo it when it comes to blue eye makeup of all kinds. Too much blue could actually take the focus away from your eyes, when the point is to draw attention to your eyes. If you have blue eyes, using blue eyeshadow can be even more tricky in our recent natural makeup trends. Blue eyes have an advantage though; they look great with black accents, and blue is one of the easier colors to accompany black. If you want to make your baby blues pop with blue eye makeup, a subtle, light shade above the eye and black mascara and liquid eyeliner can be the perfect look for you. It’s simple, and brings out the natural beauty of your blue eyes.

No matter what color your eyes are, it’s easy to keep blue eyeshadow and eye makeup alive with moderation and proper application. From a casual splash of shadow to a movie star glam look, blue eyeshadow can really give you the gorgeous look you want.
