Boxer Dogs for Kids

Are you considering a Boxer dog for your kids? If so, you would be making an excellent choice. Boxer dogs are great with kids and have the endurance to match their energy! I was raised with Boxers and now my son is raised with a Boxer. They’re a fun family companion and pet. If you’re seeking the best breed of dog for kids, the Boxer dog is ideal.

Boxer Dog for Kids: What Makes Them Great

Kids will love Boxer dogs for their playful companionship and goofy character. This breed of dog enjoys children because they’re a child themselves. They’re always up for roughhousing, running around, and keeping kids entertained for hours. They make everyone in the family laugh with their hilarious antics. Boxers are clowns at heart and fit in perfectly with a child’s routine.

Boxer Dog for Kids: Temperament

A Boxer dog’s temperament is consistent. They’re rarely unpredictable, always friendly, and happy. Every Boxer dog I had as a kid was a superb playmate. I grew up mostly with males, but now my son is raised with a female and she’s perfect for him. My son is now 8 and they’ve been buddies since he was born. Boxer dogs are good with kids in that they form a strong bond and have the same stamina as they do. Keeping up with kids is not an issue for a Boxer dog!

Boxer Dog for Kids: Too Boisterous for Kids?

Some would argue a Boxer dog for kids is questionable because they are so rambunctious, boisterous, and rowdy. The Boxer is no deadhead, true. However, all the Boxers I was raised with were intelligent in spite of their silly nature. They love their family and are careful in their rough play. If you have a young Boxer around kids they will be more rowdy until they mature a little more. There are always moments with any dog they accidentally push you over, step on your hand, or run into you. It’s just the nature of fun-loving dogs at some point. Boxers are wiggly, bounce off the walls, do playful dances and are animated. Boxers are energetic, but gentle with kids. Once the Boxer dog and kid have spent a little time together, the flow of play is well coordinated and soon relieves the worry of parents.

Boxer Dog for Kids: What to Know About Owning a Boxer

Boxer dogs are full of energy and love people. They don’t like being left alone and need attention. All they require is a lot of love, opportunity to stretch their legs, and of course, food. I have to say every single Boxer except the female my son is being raised with loves food. A lot! They tend to be garbage guts from my experience. Some, like the female mentioned, are more picky and don’t gulp without tasting the food.

Boxer Dog for Kids: Feeding and Care

Boxers don’t require an outrageous amount of food. They can eat 3-4 cups of dry food a day. It’s best to get high quality dog food without a lot of fillers in it. Adding a half container of canned dog food daily is good for their digestive system as well.

Some Boxers do well free-feeding. If the dog is raised without a lot of competition with other dogs for food, a large bowl of food can be accessible without the dog gorging him or herself.

Boxers are short-haired, clean, and easy to care for. They have sculpted muscles and a bold appearance. When I was young, many thought Boxers looked like Pitbulls, but this image has subsided with the overwhelming popularity of the Boxer dog breed.

Boxer Dog for Kids: Boxer as Protector of Family

Boxer dogs are protective of their family. You can rest assured your kids will be well-guarded by a Boxer dog. Don’t be fooled by their clownish disposition. Every Boxer I’ve known take their job as family protector seriously when it comes down to it. Their somewhat intimidating appearance will ward off strangers. What makes them so appealing is they are a protector as well as a goofball. This makes them a stable and trustworthy dog for your kids.

Boxer Dog for Kids: Health and Traits

In regards to health issues, Boxer dogs are highly susceptible to cancer. Many Boxers I grew up with died from cancer, but lived out good lives. Most of the males lived to be between 6 and 9. One lived only to be 4. The female we have now is 9 and has had no signs of cancer. Every purebred dog has health issues of some kind.

Another trait of Boxers is some slobber more than others. They have big lips and can drool. Only one Boxer my family had drooled a lot. The others slobbered a little, but it was all part of their charm. Our current Boxer doesn’t slobber at all.

Boxer Dog for Kids: A Good Choice
