Best Women’s Cords for Winter 2010

Cords in various colors are a staple in most women’s winter wardrobe. Instead of wearing jeans all winter, cords can offer some variety, color, and warmth when it comes to your pants selection.

When purchasing cords, however, it is important to be selective in which brands and cuts you buy; in many clothing stores, the cords can be tight in all the wrong places or you may need to buy your cords a few sizes larger than normal. Don’t be alarmed if you have to do this – this is a normal occurrence for most women.

1) Stretch vintage trouser cord – J. Crew $79.50

Unlike the normal ill-fitting boot-fit cords, the J. Crew Stretch vintage trouser cord are perfect because they are stretchy and looser than the normal boot-fit cord. These cords tend to be dressier simply because of their fit, but they look better on most body types. If you have any meat on your thighs, it will be worth it to invest in great fitting cords that may be more expensive but will look fantastic for years to come.

2) Perfect boot cords – Gap $59.50

Gap cords are great quality, but these are an example of cords that you’ll want to buy at least a size larger than normal – if you don’t, you may not be able to fit your legs into them. These cords are tight fitting in the hip and thigh area, but if you buy them a little larger, they will look great and last you for quite a few years. These cords also have a higher waist, so they are perfect for women who don’t like the extra low cut fits that are popular.

3) Women’s Boot-Cut Cords – Old Navy $34.50

For such a low price point, Old Navy cords fit surprisingly well. Available in 9 different colors from mustard yellow to navy blue, Old Navy cords are great for women who want their yearly dose of cords, but don’t want to break the bank to purchase them. Old Navy cords are also available in petite and tall, so women of any height can wear them.

4) DKNY Jeans Pants, Skinny Leg Distressed Corduroy – Macy’s $59.00

These high-waisted DKNY cords are perfect for women who want to tuck the cords into boots. I suggest trying any skinny leg cords on before purchasing due to the common theme of ill-fitting cords, but if you know you look good in skinny jeans and want to wear boots, these cords are a great choice.
