Nestled between St. James, Nortre Dame St., E. San Salvador, and 11th street is a city within the city of San Jose, California. It’s Downtown San Jose, California and the epicenter of San Jose city entertainment.
San Jose is host to nearly 45 different nightclubs, restaurants, theatre’s and bars. All are within walking distance to local parking, San Jose State University, and public transportation.
If your looking to dance the night away, then head downtown to clubs like The Lido, Studio 8, The Temple, Dive Bar, Zoe Bar, Mac’s Ultra and the new addition Taste Ultra Lounge.
If you’re into Hip Hop and Reggae, then grab your friends and head down to The Agenda Lounge. There are three levels to this massive location. The Agenda club is a great place to just melt into the crowd and get your groove on.
On Wednesday night the Agenda Lounge opens up the dance floors to International DJ’s and live performances.
On Thursday night, DJ Rated “R” plays mixes house and underground till the early dawn.
On Friday and Saturday, the Agenda Lounge has Salsa and other music choices on it’s three dance floors. Yes, I’ve heard Britney Spears and Beyonce in the mix from time to time.
Sunday is the longest running Reggae party in San Jose, California. DJ Nappy and DJ Jimmy “K” mix performers like Matisyahu and Bob Marley.
Taste Ultra Lounge is my newest venture into San Jose’s club scene. I loved this club the minute that I walked into it. Smooth like a bottle of brandy from yesteryear. Taste Ultra Lounge does have a modern look to it. The dance floor is complimented with hues of brown, black, and tans.
Taste Ultra Lounge offers five different dance floors with a mixer of five different DJ’s in one night. You can rest from shaking your groove thang at one of the tables or one of the lush beds. Yes, I did say bed. Taste Ultra Lounge is the first dance club to offer lush suede beds to rest on.
Every second Friday is ladies night at Taste Ultra Lounge. Where the night is sponsored by Night Life Entertainment.
Improv
If you’re not into the dance club and lounge scene, then you can join friends for laughs at The San Jose Improv. The Improv is America’s original comedy and restaurant showcase. Don’t worry I don’t see Michael Richards on January’s Improv calendar. Though right now I don’t think The Improv would touch him with a ten foot pole.
The Improv is a great place to go if you want a good laugh with your friends. The San Jose Improv usually has a comedian or group every day of the week. Comedians like Kevin Pollack, Robert Shimmel, and Gary Owens have graced the stage of the San Jose Improv.
Theatre
There are nine outstanding theatres in downtown San Jose. It doesn’t matter if you’re looking for film or stage. San Jose has something to offer the movie fanatic or the stage lover.
The United Artist Pavilion Theater offers three levels of movies on film. The stadium seating is very comfortable and allow you to snuggle up to your love.
The Tech Museum “Imax” Dome Theater is host to great movies that should only be seen on “Imax. Movies like Superman Returns and Open Season are great movies to watch on the big screen
The San Jose Rep is my favorite stage theatre in San Jose, California. The San Jose Rep has productions that will make you laugh, cry, be inspired, and yes, even be in shock.
The San Jose Rep is the place where the “Scenesters” hang out for live performances. It’s a fantastic way to enjoy time with family, meet new friends and just get a piece of culture in San Jose.
