Best Homemade Gifts for Mother’s Day

Making mom a homemade gift can be the best gift in the world for Mother’s Day or any day. Deciding what to make her can be difficult. Decide whether you want to make her something that she can use or just display. If you need help coming up with an idea, check out these 5 that I came up with.

Let Me Give You A Hand Kitchen Set.

Materials:

Plain Dish Towel

Oven Mitt

Pot Holder

Apron

Ribbon

Fabric Paint

Directions:

Using the fabric paint, paint the palms of your hands (or your child’s hands) and stamp on to the dish towel, oven mitt, pot holder and apron.

Allow paint to dry.

Roll or fold up all the items and tie a simple ribbon around them with a note attached saying “Let Me Give You A Hand”.

Adding the year on the bottom of each item will also help mom remember what year you made the items for her.

Easy to Make Candle

Materials:

Wax

Jars (baby food jars work well for small candles)

Water

Oil for scents

Dye (food dye works good) for color

Wick

Crock Pot

Directions:

Shave wax into the baby food jars. Place the jars into the crock pot and fill with water so that the water is half way up the outsides of the baby food jars. Place crock pot on low heat for a couple hours.

When the wax is melted and liquidy, remove from crock pot and stir in the scented oil and dye. Then place the wick in the center and allow enough wick to drape over the rim of the jar.

Allow the candle to dry/set up. Trim the wick to the desired length and give to mom.

Sweet Dreams

Materials:

Pillow case

Bath Robe

Fabric Paint

Fabric Markers

Directions:

My daughter made this robe for my mom and dad for Christmas, and the idea actually came from my aunt. It was a great gift!!

Using the fabric paint, stamp hand prints (and foot prints if you wish) all over one side of the pillow case (placing a piece of cardboard in the pillow case will provide a hard surface and keep the colors from bleeding through). Leave one side of the pillow case blank so that if mom doesn’t want to sleep with her head on the paint she can flip the pillow over and have a smooth surface to sleep on.

Also, stamp hand prints on the bath robe.

Using the fabric markers write down special memories, events, or meaningful sayings on both the pillow case and the robe. Have children use the fabric markers or fabric paint to draw their own pictures if they can’t write yet.

Good Morning Beautiful

Materials:

Ceramic coffee mug

Coffee

Creamer (Optional)

Morning Newspaper

Directions:

This gift set is put together by you but uses several non-homemade items such as the coffee and creamer.

However, you can make the ceramic coffee mug. You will want to find a local ceramic shop, if you live in Wichita KS I suggest Stoneware Studios. Make an appointment to use the studio to make a coffee mug, or decorate a bisque coffee mug. Paint any design on it that you want. You can even write on it or put your child’s handprints on the sides of it.

On Mother’s day you will want to make sure and get up earlier than mom and get the morning paper. Then set her spot at the table or counter with the mug you created, her favorite coffee, her favorite creamer and the morning newspaper.

Mom’s Spot.

Materials:

Cereal box

Construction paper or wrapping paper

Photos

Clear contact paper

Markers

Scissors

Directions:

This placemat is super simple to make and will designate Mom’s Spot at the table!

First, cut the cereal box to the size you want for the place mat.

Cut construction paper or wrapping paper to fit over the cereal box and cover it up.

Cut out photos and arrange them on the construction paper to make a collage.

Write special sayings or draw pictures with the markers.

Cover the front and back of the placemat with clear contact paper.
