Batman Set to Take Over Video Game World in 2012

Batman video games use to be a mockery of the DC superhero and couldn’t compare to the comic books, movies or television shows he was featured in. With the releases of LEGO: Batman, Batman: Arkham Asylum and Arkham City, the Caped Crusader has made gamers forget about mistakes in the past and provide top-notch gaming options for superhero fans.

The Batman game library is only going to grow in 2012 with the release of multiple games and the continued success of Arkham City.

Arkham City Expansion

Arkham City has already had its wide release, but the dark and popular Batman action game will find an extended release when the Wii-U console launches. For the first time, Nintendo fans will get to experience one of the new Batman games that is not a LEGO: Batman title.

It was disappointing when the original Arkham titles were not released on the Wii, but the new graphics engine on the Wii-U will provide better gameplay and stick true to other console releases.

Gotham City Imposters

Mixing the world of Batman with Call of Duty leaves fans with the FPS Gotham City Imposters. The download-only game for XBox 360, PS3 and PCs is a Batman game, but players will not find Batman, the Joker or Robin in it at all. This is because all of the characters are wannabe vigilantes and criminals wrecking havoc in the world of the Gotham.

Based off video footage from gameplay, the game adds a lot of fun and adventure to the FPS genre and non-Batman fans can easily adapt to the title. Each character has different weapons and powers to get across the city and attack enemies. Unlike the darker worlds of Arkham City, Gotham City Imposters has a lot of daylight levels so you can make your way around. The game has a planned release in February 2012.

LEGO Batman 2: DC Superheroes

Superman gets his own LEGO character as the world of Batman expands in this sequel to LEGO: Batman. The Joker is the main villain in the game again, but this time Lex Luthor joins the mayhem. Batman will have new tools, but the highlight will clearly be Superman’s powers and how they are used in the game.

LEGO Batman 2: DC Superheroes has a planned release in the summer of 2012.

Dark Knight Rises Video games

The Dark Knight” movie game was canceled and never released, so there is little hope that a “Dark Knight Rises” will ever find a publisher and release date. The success of Arkham City makes that mute anyway, so fans of “Dark Knight Rises” should look for DLC content based upon the movie or smaller games for hand held devices like iPhones.

It’s about time Batman got proper video game justice and 2012 could be the best year of gaming for the hero and fans of DC Comics.
