Bald is Beautiful: Three Great Hairless Dog Breeds

This is for the people that don’t like shedding dogs, having to groom dogs, and that like…the hairless. There is lot of hairless breeds out there, little do people realize, but it can be hard finding them. Hairless dogs aren’t all that common, so a lot of people don’t know all the different breeds of hairless dogs. This is where I come in.

If you have allergies toward dogs and think a hairless dog will stop the allergies, you could be wrong. Not all dog related allergies are cause by the dogs’ fur; dog allergies are sometimes cause by doggy dander. It is best to talk with your doctor and find out if you’re allergic to dog fur or dog dander.

I have listed couple hairless-tail-wagging-pals below. Under their names you will find their height, weight, temperament, health problems, living conditions, and life span. I hope this helps you on your quest to find the perfect hairless friend.

American Hairless Terrier:

Height – Both male and female stand 7 to 16 inches (18 to 41cm) tall.

Weight – Both male and female weigh 5 to 16 pounds (2.5 to 7kg).

Temperament – This breed of dog is very lively. They are playful, intelligent, alert, loving, and good with children.

Health problems – Sometimes these dogs get a skin rash because they’re hairless, but the rash can be treated. It is not uncommon for this dog to get pimples, because they don’t have sweat glands. Grass allergies are common among this breed.

Living conditions – This dog does fine in apartment life as long as they get 20 to 30 minutes of exercise time in each day. They are active indoors. A small yard is required, and they like to dig.

Life span – 14 to 16 years

Hairless Chinese Crested:
Height – Both male and female will stand to be 12 inches (30cm) tall.

Weight – Both male and female should not exceed 10 pounds (4.5kg).

Temperament – This is a very cuddly breed of dog. They are sweet, loving, lively, playful, and very affectionate toward children.

Health problems – This dog has extreme skin problems because they are bald. They are prone to tooth decay, so their teeth should be high priority. This breed is allergic to wool and lanolin.

Living condition – Apartment life is okay for this dog. No yard is required because they can be litter trained if need be.

Life span – 10 to 12 years.

Hairless Khala (Medio type)

Height – Both male and female stand 14 to 17 inches (36 to 41cm) tall.

Weight – Both male and female weigh to be 15 to 30 pounds (6.8 to 13.9kg).

Temperament – This breed is very loving to family and friends, though very unfriendly with strangers. Do well with other pets, but are not submissive. Tend to shy away from unwanted encounters.

Health problems – This is a rather healthy breed of dog. There are no known health problems that run through the breeds’ blood.

Living conditions – This breed can live the apartment life, but it is not recommended. This dog is normally very active indoors and out. The enjoy having a large roaming area (yard).

Life span – This dogs’ life span is unknown.

I’ll list more hairless dog breeds soon…
