Art Activities for Toddlers

When my daughter was a toddler, she liked to create things herself. She also liked to try to help me with my art activities. Having art activities for your toddlers doesn’t have to be a nightmare. With small pieces that are needed for art projects, it is not wise to use those items for your toddler’s art activities.

The upside to many things today, kid’s companies have geared their sales towards toddlers and their activities. There have been websites that have cropped up geared towards art activities for toddlers.

There are numerous art activities for toddlers out there. Even some of the art activities you did as a kid would fit into a toddler’s life. Just remember, toddlers hands are smaller than older kids and yourself. Find items like scissors, paint brushes, crayons, pencils, and other art items that fit into your toddler’s age range.

Collage Art Activities for Toddlers

Helping your toddler create a collage can help them with their motor skills. If your toddler is old enough to try using the rounded tip scissors, they can help cut out the items from magazines, newspapers, construction and wrapping paper, and other items.

Your toddler can create a collage using flower shapes cut from baking cups, construction and wrapping paper, felt, and coffee filters. If they prefer animals, cars, or balls, these topics can be used to create a collage.

Using animals found in magazines and other sources can help them learn the animals and the sounds they make. If using cars, like from the kids movie “Cars,” cut out the pictures and have them name the color of the car. With the balls, they can name the shape, type of ball, and colors. The objects that have been cut out can be glued on a stiff piece of paper.

Stamping Art Activities for Toddlers

Toddlers can create their own collages or other art activities using letter, number, and shape stamps. The stamps can be made from sponges cut into different shapes.

Have finger or temper paint available for the toddlers to use for this art activity. Any type of paper will work for this art activity for toddlers.

Letting your toddler use their imagination during this art activity will allow them to talk of things that belong to the shape, letter or number of the stamp they are using. Your toddlers imagination with art activities will help them learn, annunciate, and have fun in this activity.

Painting Art Activities for Toddlers

If you are able to find roll on containers, use them to keep the paint contained to an area rather than all over the house. You may be able to find these small roll on containers in areas of arts and craft stores. Just pour the paint into them and let your toddler have at it on their paper.

Fingerpainting is art activity for toddlers. This allows them to have their fingers in the pot if you will. This type of art activity is rather messy. You will need to make sure you have a large enough shirt that can be used for your toddler. Using an old sheet as a drop cloth is another superb item to keep on hand. Make sure to wash all the finger painting items that can go into the washer by themselves.

These are three of the simplest art activities for toddlers. Let your toddler have fun during their art activities. When they are happy, everyone else is happy.
