A Review of the National City Everyday Rewards Visa Credit Card

One of my personal favorite credit cards to use is National City’s Everyday Rewards Visa Credit card. In July 2007, it was rated one of Kiplinger’s Best of the Cash Back Cards. I personally use this card, and I can tell you, it is the only credit card I use! If you pay off your credit card each month, definitely check this card out!

Here’s how it works: you use the card for your everyday purchases (hence the name), accumulate rebates, once you hit $100, they automatically send you a check attached to your next statement. You earn a certain percentage back on each transaction depending on where you used the card.

4% back on gasoline purchases at the pump. Up to $250 in eligible monthly net purchases.

With gas prices hovering around $3.00 a gallon, that calculates out to be about 12 cents a gallon you are “saving. Now, the purchases do have to be at the pump and cannot be made inside. Also, I called to check if diesel fuel is covered, and it is. The only drawback for this is that it caps out at $250 ($10 a month in rebates). Sometimes I spend more than that a month in gas.

3% back on cinema and movie rentals, up to $150 in eligible monthly net purchases.

Are you a movie fan? Do you love to rent movies? Use your Everyday Rewards card, and you’ll get 3% of your money back, up to $4.50 a month.

2% back on groceries, restaurants, and fast food, up to $750 in eligible monthly net purchases.

I really like this part, because who doesn’t buy groceries? It’s also great that they include restaurants and fast food. $15 a month maximum back on this.

Up to 1% back on everything else. ¼% on first $10,000 in eligible net purchases each year; 1% thereafter with no limits.

This part is kind of tricky. According to my calculations, ¼% of $10,000 is $6.25. Like that’s going to add up to anything.

This card has no annual fee, $0 fraud liability, and free online access to your account. The APR ranges from 13.74% to 21.74%, depending on your credit. The cash advance APR is 23.74%, with a 3% transaction fee. Visit National City’s website for more technical information.

I personally carry and use this card. I always use it for gas, and mainly for groceries as well. I believe I’ve had the card 3 years, and I’ve received two over $100 checks. It’s awesome, because what I do is as soon as I spend the money, I log in to my online banking with the card and make a payment. That way, the money is accounted for and I’m guaranteed that I won’t spend more money than I actually have by getting caught in “the credit card game”, and I won’t pay any interest charges. If you pay off your credit card balance each month, it’s work taking a look at this credit card. You won’t be let down!
