’80s Fashion Styles We Really Want Back

It was the 1980s! We listened to everything from Randy Rhoads to George Michael. We loved the Breakfast Club, St. Elmo’s Fire and Gremlins. The 1980s was a time when you could be anyone. A prep. A jock. Or just yourself. Like any other coming of age group, we were ‘misunderstood’, smarter than our parents and well, full of ourselves. But more than anything it was the funky style we fell in love with. Who didn’t love Molly Ringwald’s great ’80s fashion sense? Here are some ’80s fashion styles we really want back. (And ones we absolutely don’t!)

Bang Your Hair

Big hair was great. It made number one on our list. Big hair was teased, colored, blown dry and curled. It framed our high school heads like a lion’s mane. Even short haired gals jacked up their hair. Guys got in on the action too. Remember the head bangers? That’s big hair my friend. So go ahead, bang your hair!

Big, Big Shirts

One of the easiest, 80’s fashion styles we really want back is the big shirt. There was no worries about what to wear. Big shirts and a pair of tights were just what you needed. I still love big white shirts! We dressed up those shirts with big belts and jelly shoes.

Pom Pom Socks

We can’t help it! Pom Pom socks were fun. They were just ankle socks with useless, pointless Pom Poms on the back. Oh, Pom Pom socks… where have you gone?

Deck Shoes

Boat shoes or deck shoes are still around! We still love these easy to wear stylish shoes. Thank goodness some 80’s fashion survived!

Izod Shirts, Polos and Belts

Who didn’t love Izod? That tiny alligator was coveted by poor kids and proudly worn by preps. But they just looked great! We loved Izod then and we love them now. The Izod belt got special notice from our 80’s list makers. It was a true 80’s favorite! Simple interchangable belts with interlocking alligators. Great idea!

Reversible Monogrammed Purses
Everything was coordinated, sort of. Button purses could be changed over wooden handles. Monogrammed purses were even better.

Please, Oh Please, Don’t Bring These Back

Tube Tops

We say no to this! Tube tops are never right. Even tiny cute gals look a little too daring in these. Teenage boys loved them. But we gave them two thumbs down!

Terry Cloth Rompers

Yikes! Terry cloth is now only visible in porn movies. Everything about terry cloth rompers says “tacky”! We are glad these formless garments are gone, gone, gone!

Stirrup Pants

Stirrup pants are God Awful! Tights were fabulous but stirrup pant were not attractive and uncomfortable. Now only worn by the extremely unfashionable Goodwill shoppers with no fashion sense. Good bye stirrup pants! We won’t miss you!

Spandex

Like… totally! Not! Spandex is a fabric that only belongs in under garments. Everyone remembers the guy who loved wearing spandex and a half shirt. Yikes! Scary then and scary now!
