8 Great Gifts for Teen Boys

Next to “the man who has everything,” the hardest group to buy for has to be teenage boys. The default gift for this age group is a video game or accessory for their favorite game system. If the video collection is maxed out or you prefer to give a more unique gift you are going to need ideas.

The following gift ideas for teenage boys may help you finish up your Christmas shopping.

Gifts for Teenage Boys: Electronic Dartboard

Electronic dart play allows teenagers to play tournament style darts while displaying the score on an LCD backlit scoreboard. Walmart carries the Sportcraft BX3200 Electronic Dartboard for $49.96. The BX3200 scores up to 8 players and comes with six steel tip darts.

For less advanced play, Toys ‘R Us, has a CX1000 electronic dartboard for only $19.99.

Gifts for Teenage Boys: Batman, the Dark Night DVD

The latest installment of the Batman series pits Batman against organized crime in Gotham. Starring the late Heath Ledger, this DVD is bound to be a collectable. The DVD is scheduled to be released on December 9. Toys “R Us will currently take pre-orders for $25.99. Walmart’s scheduled release price is $16.86.

Gifts for Teenage Boys: MP3 Player

IPod is the favorite MP3 player for music and videos, but there are a variety of brands available in a range of prices. Target carries the Zune which ranges in price from $129.99 to $249.99. Walmart has 8GB IPods for $157.88, with accessories. IPod shuffles are available for $48.72.

Pass on the name brand and pick up an Ematic device. The Ematic is a 4GB video, MP3 player with a 2.4″ screen, that includes a camera and video recorder. Walmart has the device for $58.00.

Gifts for Teenage Boys: Board Games

The latest edition of Monopoly is always a welcome gift, as are the many DVD interactive games now available. On such game is Scene It. Scene It is a trivia game that includes video snip-its. Walmart is selling a popular Seinfeld Scene It and a 2nd edition Movie Scene It for $29.88. Scene It Squabble, $30, pits the men against the women. Scene It Friends can be found at Amazon.com. Prices vary.

Yahtzee Free for All and Clue: Discover the Secrets are two new games, based on their popular predecessors, that make great gifts for teens.

Gifts for Teenage Boys: Digital Camera

With the popularity of Facebook , MySpace, and other social websites it isn’t surprising that everyone wants a digital camera. When the price for low megapixel digital cameras fell, most teens got one. Now, 7 and 8 megapixel cameras are available for reasonable prices. New digital cameras are welcome gifts for greater picture clarity, longer battery life, and compact size.

Kmart has a GE 7.0 megapixel camera for $79.99. A Kodak 8.2 megapixel digital camera can be purchased for $99.99.

Walmart carries Nikon, Canon, Kodak, Panasonic, Fuji. They have a sony 7 megapixel for $69.00. The best deal I found was on a Kodak EasyShare 9.2 megapixel at Walmart for $99.39.

Gifts for Teenage Boys: Prepaid Cell Phone

Ever run into trouble with your teenager going over their phone minutes. The charges add up fast. Take control of the cell phone situation by purchasing a prepaid phone from T Mobile or a Tracfone with prepaid minutes. Phones vary in price from $9 to $69, depending on perks like caller ID, camera, and Bluetooth compatibility. The biggest perk of owning a pre-paid phone is that there are no contracts, no hidden fees, and once the minutes are gone, they are gone. There are no outrageous charges for going over your minutes package. This is perfect for teens.

Gifts for Teenage Boys: Ripstick or Skateboard

It seems skateboard trends come and go, but thanks to Tony Hawk and video games, the current trend has lasted for a while. Obviously, a skate shop will be able to help you build the best skateboard, but it will cost you. It’s worth it if you are buying specifically for a young man who is really interested in skating.

If you have a casual or would-be skater on your hands spend around $30 on a skateboard at a discount department store. At that price, it is more a matter of style than functionality.

The Ripstick is a modified caster board that has become popular in the last few years. It can be purchased upward of $75. Most are priced at $78 to $79 right now. Wait it out and you may get a better deal a little closer to Christmas. There hasn’t been a run on Razor’s Ripstick in the past few years. I anticipate you won’t have any trouble finding one.

Gifts for Teenage Boys: Gift Card

What hard to buy for teenage boy doesn’t like cash? It seems a little cheesy to give cash, so why not pick up a gift card to their favorite store? You may also choose from a fast food restaurant or movie gift certificates. Help out their social life. If you aren’t sure where to pick up the best gift card go for a Visa gift card. There are a number of different gift cards available in local gas station, grocery, and drugstore gift card centers. So, they are easy and convenient to buy.
