7 of the Most Haunted Locations in America

It is an age old question, do ghosts really exist? Whether you are a believer or a skeptic, there have been some excellent audio, visual and personal experiences that prove there is definitely something besides the living that exists. If you are intrigued with and curious about things that go bump in the night, you will want to add this list of 10 haunted American locations to ghost hunting itinerary. All of the places on this list welcome visitors to their locations, but it is recommended that you contact owners of the establishment before visiting to find out if there are specific days and/or hours when proprietors allow visitors.

The following locations are not listing in any specific order, but they are known for having some type of paranormal activity.
1. Bobby Mackey’s Music World in Wilder, Kentucky-Bobby Mackey’s dance hall was previously a slaughterhouse and it has been reported that the basement was a gathering place for Devil worshippers. There are several stories as to why the place is haunted; one is that at some point in time a woman was beheaded by the devil worshippers in the basement. Another story is there were several murders by a mob on the site when it was a speakeasy during the 1920’s. Paranormal activity includes appropriations of a ghost dressed in old-fashioned attire, unusual sounds and an overall creepy feeling.
2. John Stone’s Inn, in Ashland, Massachusetts- the 164 year old inn was once a hiding place for slaves who were running away. There have been numerous reports by employees and customers of apparitions, objects moving, hands being grabbed and unexplainable sounds.
3. Gettysburg Battlefield in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania-this now historical site was previously a battlefield during the Civil War, where more than 10,000 soldiers died. There have been hundreds of reports by visitors, employees and Civil War re-enactors about the sound of gunshots, sounds of cannons being fired and apparitions of Civil War soldiers.
4. The Bell Witch Cave in Adams, Tennessee-the land of historical location was once owned by John Bell, but the ghost that supposedly haunts the place, is the former neighbor of John Bell, Kate Batts. The story is that Batts was cheated out of land deal she had made with John Bell and he did not follow through with the deal, so Batts swore on her deathbed that she would forever haunt John Bell and all of his descendants. Reported activity includes a variety of things such as apparitions and people being touched.
5. Myrtles Plantation in St. Francisville, Louisiana-the plantation which is currently a bed and breakfast, has had numerous reports of paranormal activity. There have been 10 murders and 1 suicide as well as hangings, which explains why the sightings of apparitions include men, women and children. The most popular reports are of slaves that formerly lived on the plantation. Apparitions, sounds and being touched are common occurrences on several areas of the plantation.
6. Villisca Ax Murder House in Villisca, Iowa-in 1912, someone broke into the house and murdered the entire family that lived there, including four children, their parents and two children that were there visiting. The murders have never been solved. Paranormal activity includes children giggling, apparitions, unexplained sounds and people being touched.
7. The Lemp Mansion in St. Louis, Missouri was built in the 1860’s and is thought to be haunted by the family who originally owned the home. There is a long history of tragedy in the home including the death of William Lemp’s son in 1904 and three suicides, William Lemp Sr., his daughter and William Lemp Jr. The building is now a restaurant reports various paranormal activity including feelings of being watched, strange sounds, apparitions, voices, a piano playing by itself and glasses flying through the air.
