5 Summer Family Activities in Milwaukee

I spent my childhood and teen years romping around Milwaukee. I was always on the hunt for some new and exciting activity. Now with a family of my own my goal is the same. Below is a list of our families favorite summer family activities in Milwaukee.

Milwaukee County Parks
Milwaukee has many beautiful parks, in fact there is more park acreage per person than in any other United States city. Most park activities are free or inexpensive and run throughout the summer months. Visit the Milwaukee County Parks for hours, locations, and activities.

Cool Waters” Family Aquatic Park”
One of Milwaukee’s favorite summer destinations is the outdoor water park, Cool Waters. Located inside Greenfield Park just off of hwy 45 Cool Waters has water slides, a zero depth pool, and many more water activities. New this year are evening hours and the summer pass. Visit the Cool Waters web site for hours and admission fees.

Nite Glow Golfing
Many of the Milwaukee County Golf Courses have special Nite-Glow Golfing. Nite-Glow golfing is done at night with lighted flags and tees and glow-in-the-dark golf balls. This fun and challenging version of golf is great for families of all ages and sizes. Visit the Nite-Glow web site for hours and admission fees.

The Milwaukee County Park system also has many free activities. Check their web site for Fridat Night Flicks, Music at the Park, and free swimming dates. At the end of summer the pools are even opened for the family dog to have a swim!

Milwaukee County Zoo
Spend the day with over twenty five hundred animals at the Milwaukee County Zoo. There are two hundred acres of woods and habitats for your family to explore and enjoy. After strolling the grounds take a ride on the Safari Train, Sky Safari, or the Zoomobile. Children will enjoy the petting zoo, sea lion show, and the birds of prey theater. Don’t forget the camera!

Check the Milwaukee County Zoo web site for hours, fees, and how to get reduced admission or buy a Zoo Pass.

Riverwalk Boat Tours and Rentals
Does your family enjoy water activities? Riverwalk Boat Tours and Rentals is your opportunity to experience water and Milwaukee in a fun and unique way! Rent a pontoon and guide your family around the Milwaukee River. For the price of dinner your family of up to ten can enjoy a peaceful cruise together for as little as one hour. Visit the Riverwalk Boat Tours and Rentals for hours and rental fees.

Schlitz Audoban Nature Center
One hundred eighty five acres of heaven? How else would you describe the trails, beach, and views that you will experience at the Schlitz Audoban Nature Center? Climb up into the sixty foot high observation tower an enjoy the beach and nature center from a birds nest view.

Hiking in nature not enough for your family? Register for workshops, visit nature exhibits, and introduce yourself to the resident animals. Don’t forget your camera and binoculars! Visit the Schlitz Audoban web site for hours and admission fees.
