5 Dollar Store Cleaning Products that Are as Good as the Competition

If the high costs of groceries has got you down, one super simple way to save money is to change where you shop. Instead of buying produce at the supermarket for example, try a produce stand where the prices are considerable lower. And when it comes to buying cleaning supplies, you’ll discover that dollar stores have an amazing selection of name brand cleaners that are priced far, far less than what can be found at most supermarkets.

I first started experimenting with dollar store cleaning products about five years ago. It didn’t take long to discover that many of these products clean just as well as leading brands at one third of the price. Dollar stores are now regularly on my shopping loop of go-to-stores where it’s easy to save $25 a month (or more) on household cleaning supplies. Here is my pick of the top five dollar store deals on household cleaning supplies.

Spic and Span Antibacterial Spray Cleaner. As a 4-H leader, I’m big on safe food handling, especially in the kitchen. I used to wipe the countertops after meal prep with a bleach spray until discovering Spic and Span antibacterial spray cleaner at my favorite dollar store. Just like a bleach spray, Spic and Span is effective against e. Coli, staph, strep, and flu germs. Unlike bleach, it doesn’t stink up the kitchen afterwards nor damages your household rags. Spic and Span antibacterial spray cleaner is packaged in a 24 ounce container and costs just a dollar.

Comet Bowl Cleaner. Who wants to pay $4 for a toilet bowl cleaner? Not me! Cheapskates like us will discover that Comet Bowl Cleaner works as well as leading brands. While the Comet cleaner looks and pours like blue mouthwash, it does a great job of cleaning the bowl and smells nice too. Comet Bowl cleaner is also packaged in a 24 ounce container and costs $1.

Glass Plus is one of the leading competitors of Windex but priced far, far less. I use it to wash windows and medicine cabinets, polish chrome, and wipe down counter tops. What I especially like about Glass Plus is that it does not contain ammonia, making it safe to use around bleach products. A 32 ounce container of Glass Plus costs only $1.

Totally Awesome Concentrated All Purpose Cleaner. Dollar Tree carries a number of cleaning products made by LAs Totally Awesome. I’ve tried several of them but the one that stands heads and shoulders above the rest is their concentrated all purpose cleaner. This produces is diluted with water in a 5:1 ratio and is amazingly effective at tackling tough stains, cleaning up soiled carpet, and more. You’ll find the 22 ounce container at most dollar stores for just a buck.

Comet Multi Surface Cleaner. My husband is allergic to ammonia based products which is why I was thrilled to find Comet’s Multi Surface Cleaner for scrubbing my kitchen floors. This multipurpose cleaner has a fresh lemony scent, does a great job of cutting through kitchen grease, and requires no rinsing. Comet Multi Purpose Cleaner is packaged in 22 ounce containers for the dollar store market.

It’s not just cleaning products that can be found at the dollar store. You can leverage the savings even more by purchasing cleaning sponges, scrub brushes, mop buckets, totes, and other cleaning supplies at these stores as well. For families watching their budgets, dollar store cleaning supplies makes it possible to clean your home for less.
