5 Creative Ways to Paint a Room

Are you looking for ideas on how to paint a room in your home or apartment? There are several ways to paint a room and I have a few ideas for you to try. Perhaps these will inspire you to create that masterpiece that will make the room a show place.

Sponge

Use a sponge on the walls or ceiling for a unique one of a kind look when you paint a room. If you were to start with a darker base coat on the walls, you could create a nice dimensional look if used a lighter coat on top. A sponge will only put paint in some areas because of the texture so the wall ends up looking spotted.

They are small spots, but it does work. Imagine a medium blue room, which you have taken a sponge and painted with white paint. You have a cloudy appearance with a bit of blue sky coming through. Be sure to add a rainbow to one wall. This is perfect for a child’s room that is bright and cheerful.

Stencils

Purchasing or creating your own stencils is a great idea when you paint a room. The beauty of stencils is that you can do any type of stencils in any configuration or pattern on a wall.

For a young children’s white bedroom, you can do stencils of the alphabet or numbers in primary colors. Your child will look at the wall often and will remember the pattern. Beach balls, seashells, or blocks are also good bets for a child’s room.

Mural

When you are painting a room, adding a mural is a nice idea to add a bit of class. I once saw a mediation room, which had a wildness mural surrounding the four walls. This was a perfect space to relax and meditate. Of course, most rooms have one mural on the dominate wall, which is great, and it becomes a focal point.

Vertical or horizontal strips

For a long narrow room strips will make I appear shorter or wider. This creates an illusion and plays a trick on the eyes. Be sure to use colors that match closely to create the look without making the room look awful. I would suggest using white and off white or a pale blue with a shade of blue which is a bit different.

If you have a daughter who loves pink and purple, you could paint the walls in her bedroom in those colors. Yes, horizontal stripes would work here with the right shades.

Half-and-half

My new home office will be white on the bottom and the ceiling and it will be blue from the middle of the wall up to the top. This is simple to create, we simply painted the wall half way up with white, and we will finish with a medium blue. I will install a borer between the two colors, which will draw it together.
