2009 Audi A4 Vs. 2009 BMW 328i Sedan

Recently, I had the opportunity to drive a 2009 Audi A4 automobile that a good friend of mine purchased a few months ago. Approximately one month before that, I also had the opportunity to briefly test – drive a 2009 BMW 328i Sedan I hadn’t seen my friend who owns the Audi in several months and we had arranged to meet in front of my apartment, then get lunch at a restaurant in downtown Hartford, Connecticut. When he asked me if I wanted to drive, I was surprised. Surprised because the car was new and very expensive and also surprised because we would be driving in the inner city, which is full of potholes and poorly – maintained roads, not to mention lots of traffic and inconsiderate drivers.

As soon as I sat behind the wheel of the 2009 Audi A4, I felt as though I was sitting in the lap of luxury, albeit a fast and sporty lap of luxury. The front seats in the 2009 Audi A4 are very comfortable, I could almost imagine being able to fall asleep in the driver’s seat, with little difficulty. When I turned the ignition key and started the engine of this impressive automobile, it came to life with a quiet, yet powerful sound that only masterfully – engineered automobiles possess. Before taking off, I adjusted the mirrors slightly and surveyed the instrument panel and all of the bells and whistles that are featured in this automobile. I also couldn’t help but take notice of the high – quality wood finish throughout the interior, as well as the multiple audio speakers that are very strategically – placed.

One of the first things I noticed was a monitor that sits in the middle of the front instrument panel, or console. This monitor displays in color all types of information regarding various components and performance levels of the 2009 Audi A4 while it is in operation. I noticed that all of the gauges and instruments in this car were easy to read and quite accessible. Just before we drove away, my friend, who was sitting in the front passenger seat of his car, told me that the 2009 Audi A4 features an actual camera in the top of the trunk, which allows the driver to see behind the car while backing up and parking. This was the first time I had driven an automobile that possessed such technology and I was impressed, yet somewhat daunted by it. When I put the car in reverse and began to back – up, I was amazed at the clarity of the images showing on the monitor, not to mention just the fact that such technology exists. Such a feature, undoubtedly, would be of great assistance when it is dark and / or inclement weather outside.

As I drove away from our parking space, the 2009 Audi A4 gently, yet firmly accelerated like no other car I had previously driven. It was obvious right away, that this automobile is an elegant, yet high – performance machine that has lots of power and maneuverability. After deciding to write this article, I did some research on the 2009 Audi A4 and learned that this automobile features a V-4 turbo engine that delivers 211 horsepower. Judging by the incredible pickup that this car delivers off – the – line, its quarter – mile statistics must be astonishing. This car also offers a very impressive torque rating, which adds to its overall power. In the interest of honest journalism, I will not list any performance figures here, because I read differing figures when I looked this car up on the Internet. It should also be noted that the 2009 Audi A4 is also available with a V-6 engine, which would boost the price tag of the car considerably.

While driving through the city, the 2009 Audi A4 performed as though it were being driven in the most well – maintained and idyllic area. The superb suspension in the 2009 Audi A4 treated us to a ride that was completely free of bumps, bruises and otherwise uncomfortable road conditions and occurences, although we were driving over potholes, bumps and other obstacles. The handling in the 2009 Audi A4 is remarkable. The steering wheel is so precision – like that it requires virtually no effort at all to make any type of maneuver. I was also very impressed with the audio system in this car, which delivered clear and crisp sound.

When I drove the 2009 BMW 328i Sedan, I was firstly impressed with the attractive and extremely comfortable leather seats and fine wood finish. I did not have a chance to look closely at the instrument panel / console, but I remember it being basic and functional in design.

What I remember most about the 2009 BMW 328i is the incredible get – up – and – go acceleration performace of the machine. From the end of my street to the nearest traffic light, headed west, is a distance of 1/4 mile. When I eased onto the main thoroughfare, my foot barely hit the gas pedal, yet with a determined sense of urgency, the BMW 328i reached the quarter mile marker in very few seconds. What I felt when I hit the gas in was a was a great amount of torque being exhibited. The way this car accelerated reminded me of a tiger being released from a cage.

The 2009 BMW 328i Sedan features a V-6 engine, which delivers 230 horsepower.and also offers superb handling and a top – rate suspension. The model that I drove had a 6 – speed manual transmission, which I prefer over an automatic transmission. The shifting in this automobile is as smooth as yogurt, with a logical gear pattern, the braking is smartly effective and the standard AM / FM MP3 / CD player audio system is first – rate.

All things considered, I personally think that the 2009 Audi A4 and the 2009 BMW328i are somewhat similar in appearance and they are both high performance machines that are simultaneously elegant. Based upon my experiences driving both of these cars, I would have to say that each of them is an excellent example of automobile engineering at its finest.
