1995 Honda Civic EX: JDM ‘Dis!

The love of my life had 4 wheels and a Honda emblem tacked to the front and back of its’ shiny, silver exterior; it was my 1995 Honda Civic EX. Although myself, and others, love (or loved) this car, it was for far more than its’ amazing gas mileage or smooth styling. If you don’t drive one now; you will want one. If you did drive one at one point; I may make you re-confess your love for this brilliant machine.

I say my 1995 Honda Civic EX was my favorite car, and it certainly was, it was not my most flashy, most expensive or fastest by far. From the outside it appeared conservative, sleek and welcoming. Its’ cockpit bared in gray cloth, every crevice and device awaiting your hands and feet to take control. My 1995 Civic EX wanted me. I wanted it, too. I chose the fine tuned path with my Civic; adorning it with a lip kit, 17-inch rims and tires, a cold air intake, exhaust system, in car electronics and much more to satisfy my needs. Others may choose a more conservative path; using it to get from school, work or road trips to visit family and friends. Those other paths are great and fine; this only encompasses more facets of how great this car is. Its’ versatility and styling make it pliable to whatever your wants or needs may be. To say the 1995 Honda Civic EX is solely for grocery-getting, tuning or road trips and not all three is absurd. This car is amazing and can be whatever you want it to be; I should know, I am the prime example.

A lot of people see the 1995 Honda Civic EX and assume it is a well-priced automobile to suit the needs of the every day working-class citizen. However, I beg to differ. Here’s another aspect of how versatile this machine really is. I consider myself upper medium income; I currently drive a newer-model Lexus GS and also have a BMW M5 in my driveway. These are both fine cars; but I still miss my 1995 Honda Civic EX. The Lexus and BMW both have stereotypes built in when you purchase them that are not listed on your price tag. The Honda Civic has a blank canvas so you can paint your own portrait. Who do you want to be seen as? Your Civic can be your self reflection. To delve deeper into the monetary-classification, I will provide yet another example. Attorneys generally are stereotyped immediately as their job title leaves their lips-people see dollar signs. My attorney, we’ll refer to him as Devin, works for one of the best law firms in the state. Devin works day in and day out, representing his clients, and he makes top dollar, too. I know, I’ve issued checks to the man. Ahem. Anyway, he’s very well respected and just finished having a 5,000 square foot home built for himself and his wife. Guess what beauty adorns Devin’s driveway? You got it-a red 1995 Honda Civic EX. You’re probably wondering why Devin, and myself, choose and chose this car? As Devin puts it, “It’s the only automobile I can trust 100%.” Believe me, nothing is truer. I drove my Civic at 150,000 miles on the odometer and never winced at the thought of something going wrong or worried that I would be broke down and left on the side of the road. The 1995 Honda Civic EX is unlike any other car; simple and worry free.

Not only is this car unbelievably reliable-it has some pep! My 1995 Honda Civic EX rocked the 1.6L VTEC Si motor, sporting 125-hp stock! This is a great number for such a fuel efficient machine. While the CX model of the 1995 Honda Civic was fitted with a 1.5-liter 70-horsepower D15B8 engine; it obviously had better fuel efficiency than my EX, but was pale in performance comparison to my D16Z6 motor. Whether you want to zip through lines of traffic or cruise at your own pace, again, the 1995 Honda Civic EX offers you the choice! You’re not limited with this car, you make and define how the car is and will be.

Enough about performance and speed; lets talk about the style. 1995 was the last year for this body style of the Honda Civic, 1996 revealed a revamped Civic lineup; featuring a new body altogether. The headlights and tails were visually larger than the 1995 while the body was lit up with a new body line that appeased the Civic crowd. Still, my 1995 Honda Civic EX was a pioneer when its’ body style was introduced in 1992. It offered its predecessors much respect but still rocked its new style with a fresh appeal. The additions were generous in comparison. Smile-adorned consumers loved the Honda Civic and drove them with pride. Even to this day, people stand behind their 1995 Honda Civic EX just like I did 3 years ago and just like 1^st-time buyers did back in 1995! That type of cult-like following gives you a hint and clue to how awesome this car really is.

The memories of my 1995 Honda Civic EX are plentiful and joyous ones. From the time when I got it, stock as could be, with my hubcaps and all. To the first night I drove it to the shop to get my personal alarm installed. Getting my rims and tires packed in the mail, dropping it off to get its’ new after market lip kit mounted and painted. Passing every gas station and smiling at the suckers that I saw filling up just a couple of days prior; I bet the gas station attendant knew them on a first name basis. That’s not a relationship I want, that’s for sure. My Civic helped me stay away from that and other stereotypes. Like myself, there are thousands over other enthusiasts waiting to tell you their story of their 1995 Honda Civic EX. There are dozens of websites on the Internet dedicated to the love of these cars, where members can interact by sharing stories, ideas and photos of their Honda Civics. There are even national organized meets where people show up and show off their Honda Civic. While this may not be for some people, those who are into this facet of the current generation love the unity and bond of what they call “The Honda Civic Nation”.

The 1995 Honda Civic EX offers you more than an automobile. It offers you a choice; affordability, reliability and basic, simple pleasures vs. the unneeded complications. The option and choice to paint your canvas any way you want vs. a stigma not listed on the price tag. Make the choice, its all yours… but if you choose the 1995 Honda Civic EX, you will have no regrets-only happiness on 4-wheels tacked with a Honda emblem on the front and back.
