Parents spend so much time searching for the perfect name for their baby boy or girl. The search can be a lot of fun, or for some a daunting task. German names might be exactly your style, or give you great ideas about what you like and don’t like. This list gives you an overview of German names. Nameberry will help us journey through the German names!

(1) Danner: (male) A great alternative to Daniel, Danner is fresh and sounds modern. It also fits in with the popular sound for boys names of the day, but still manages to sound original.

(2) Rainer: (male) I love Rainey on a girl, and Rainer on a boy is super cool. The nickname Rain is also very appealing.

(3) Elsa: (female) A form of Elizabeth, Elsa is a gorgeous little name with so much character. Short names for girls are coming back into style, with Emma, Ella, Ava, and Lila, so why not spice it up with Elsa?

(4) Amalya: (female) Amelia is so last year, Amalya has a touch of elegance that sets it apart. I love the spelling and I love the sound.

(5) Strom: (male) This is definitely a very different name, and would be a very daring choice. It’s also great for parents who don’t like nicknames.

(6) Bernessa: (female) Vanessa is so totally the 90s, but Bernessa has the same feel and sound with an extra dose of sass.

(7) Gisella: (female) As princess names go, I prefer this to Isabella and Gabriella. It’s a little different, but gets you to the same frilly place.

(8) Alric: (male) If you love the idea that your son is a little king, this name means “ruler of all.” It has a great sound and energy to it as well.

(9) Ivara: (female) There is something unique and intriguing about Ivara. I was never a fan of Ivana, but Ivara is something special.

(10) Rosalinde: (female) This is a beautiful name and has such a traditional and medieval feel to it. Still, with a lot of great-grandma names coming back, Rosalinde is a gorgeous choice.

(11) Bartol: (male) I love the sound of this name and the other German choices that are similar like Bertol and Bertholt. They have a great sound and feel.

(12) Liesel: (female) Another beautiful German baby name for your baby girl! It is sweet and has a great energy about it. It’s definitely one to add to the list of possibilities.

(13) Gerrit: (male) Gerrit is a nice, strong German name that has a lot of potential as a great choice for your son. I love the nickname Rit too.

(14) Leni: (female) Short and sweet, Leni is an adorable name for your little girl. Heidi Klum used it for her daughter as well. It’s a much better choice than Lily and Lila.

(15) Hans: (male) Hans ia a really great name that has a European feel, but still has potential as a name to cross the pond. It’s another strong, short choice for parents who do not like nicknames.
