ZZ Top’s Ten Best Hits

When I thought of such catchy tunes as “Gimme All Your Lovin'”, I didn’t think it was made by ZZ Top. I didn’t even know those weird looking guys with the long scruffy beards were ZZ Top. As soon as I found out, I looked into them and their history of music, and I found out just how great they were.

Formed in 1970, this American blues rock band is one of the few rock bands that are still together, still rocking the house, and still shocking people like me. Known as “That little o’ rock band from Texas”, Billy (vocals and guitar), Dusty (bass guitar and vocals) and Frank (drums) reached the height of their success in the ’70s and ’80s, plowing the way for a new sound and most definitely a new look in rock.

The record known as ZZ Top’s First Album was released in 1971. It featured such memorable ZZ Top songs as “Somebody Else Been Shakin’ Your Tree. But, the album was far from a hit. Their next album, Rio Grande Mud in 1972 was well-liked, including such songs as “Francine”, but ZZ still hadn’t broken past 50 on the charts. Finally, with a good album, Tres Hombres released in ’73, including the exceptional song, “La Grange”, ZZ Top was starting to rise up on the charts and gain acclaim.

ZZ Top’s next album, released in 1975, Fandango was just as successful. On this album, they included such popular songs as “Tush”, which just so happens to be on my list. Then, ZZ didn’t give us another exceptional, popular song until Warner Bros. released Deguello in 1979, where they blew heads back with “Cheap Sunglasses”.

Their seventh album was El Loco, released in 1981. The album included such great popular songs as “Leila”, “Pearl Necklace”, and “Tube Snake Boogie. It was definitely a turning point. Later, they would release similar albums such as Eliminator (1983), Afterburner (1985), and Recycler (1990).
