Your Pregnancy Hospital Checklist

Birth Plans, Hospital Bag, Lip Moisturizer, Nursing Bras

When you are ready to have a baby, there are a million things running through your mind. A hospital bag is not usually one of them. The mothers that do remember to pack their hospital bags usually pack like they are going on a month vacation. Having your hospital bag packed and packed correctly is very important for a new mother. You should pack this bad a month or so ahead of time so that when it’s time to have your little one, you will be ready to grab it and go. You may even want to leave it in the back of the car so that you won’t forget it when you are in a hurry to get to the hospital. I have created a list of things that you should have packed in your hospital bag for you and your new baby.

First of all, have any of your birth plans packed. These could include any notes or a specific birth plan that you want your doctors, nurses or midwife to be aware of. Have this organized and written clearly so that you will have them at hand when you need them. Next, bring some chapstick. During your labor, you are usually asked not to drink or eat anything. You are usually limited to ice chips and during your contractions, your lips may become very dry and sore. Having a lip moisturizer at hand is a great idea to keep your lips from becoming too dry. Pack some snacks and drinks. The waiting process can be long so having some treats for you and your man to enjoy while you wait is a good idea. Clothing is the next step. You will need to pack an outfit for you and your baby to go home in. You may also want to pack some sweat pants and t-shirts if you want to avoid wearing those hospital gowns for the couple days that you have to stay. And don’t forget to pack something that is going to fit your post pregnancy weight. Slippers and socks are also a must. Those hospital floors can get pretty cold!

Next, pack a camera. You are defiantly going to want to capture your newborn on film during those first few moments and days. Pack extra film if you think you will need and and extra batteries. Bring your own toiletries. You will want to look half way decent when you get your picture taking with your newborn so packing a brush, some make up, and your own shampoo, conditioner and soap is defiantly something to consider. Next, pack some nursing bras and pads. When your milk comes, these are going to be a lifesaver. Adding some extra things to your bag like magazines, book and music are also something to consider. When you are sitting in your hospital room for a few days, you may get bored in between your visits and your newborn sleeping. The most important thing to bring with you to the hospital is the infant car seat. You will not be allowed to bring your newborn home without it so don’t forget!

Of course, every hospital is different and offers different things to you but it’s always nice to have these things on hand so that you can grab them if you want them. You want to enjoy these days as much as possible because it’s truly a one time deal. Enjoy your new baby!
