WWE Royal Rumble (2011) Predictions

On January 30th, 2011, World Wrestling Entertainment presents the WWE Royal Rumble Pay-Per-View. This will be the twenty-fourth annual Royal Rumble event, dating back to the inception of this event, in 1988. The concept of this PPV is the Royal Rumble Match which will consist of 30 WWE Superstars, trying to be the last one left in the ring to earn a shot for a world title at WrestleMania. Currently, there have been three matches announced for the card, Edge vs. Dolph Ziggler for the World Heavyweight Championship, The Miz vs. Randy Orton for the WWE Championship, and the Royal Rumble Match. These are my predictions on the matches will be on the Royal Rumble card and who will come out victorious.

15-Diva Battle Royal: To start off the Royal Rumble card, we will probably have a 15-diva battle royal match consisting of all the divas in the WWE. The rules of such a match are slightly different to a Royal Rumble Match. All the divas will start in the ring, as opposed to a new competitor coming into the ring every two minutes. Also, a diva could get eliminated by going either through the top rope or the middle rope. To add some incentive to this match, the winner could get a shot at Natalya’s Divas Championship later on in the card or sometime in the near future. Prediction: Awesome Kong makes her WWE debut, destroying all the other divas in the ring, and winning this match.

Kofi Kingston (c) vs. Jack Swagger for the Intercontinental Championship: Kofi Kingston won his third Intercontinental Championship on the January 7th edition of SmackDown, dethroning long-time reigning champion Dolph Ziggler. Kingston made his first title defense moments later when Vickie Guerrero restarted the match, beating the former champion Ziggler again, this time by his finisher. Since Ziggler has moved on to the main event scene, becoming the new number one contender for Edge’s World Heavyweight Championship, Kingston’s next opponent will probably be Jack Swagger. Swagger and Kofi feuded with Ziggler for the belt at the TLC pay-per-view. Prediction: Kingston retains his newly won title via pinfall victory.

Daniel Bryan (c) vs. Tyson Kidd for the United States Championship: Ever since winning the United States title in September 2010, Daniel Bryan has been on a major roll, taking on all challengers and coming out victorious. Some of these challengers include The Miz (who Bryan won the United States title from), John Morrison, and Ted DiBiase. Bryan and Kidd seem to have a feud brewing up, and expectations say that these two will meet at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view. Bryan and Kidd have not had an official one-on-one match yet, but they have had some on-screen promos and Kidd assures the fans that he will be the next contender for Bryan’s belt. Prediction: Bryan once again successfully defends his title at a pay-per-view, making Kidd submit with the LeBell Lock.

Edge (c) vs. Dolph Ziggler for the World Heavyweight Championship: Edge won his 10th world championship at the TLC PPV, taking down the world title in a Fatal-4-Way TLC Match. Edge retained his title in a Last Man Standing match on SmackDown against Kane. Edge will defend his coveted gold against new number one contender, Dolph Ziggler at the Royal Rumble. Ziggler won his opportunity at the world title by winning a number one contender match after Vickie Guerrero put him into the match in the last minute. This will be the first pay-per-view that Ziggler has ever been in the main event, and that will be a huge disadvantage, opposed to Edge, who has been main eventing for the last five years. Prediction: Edge holds on to his world title with a spear to Ziggler for the pinfall victory.

The Miz (c) vs. Randy Orton for the WWE Championship: Randy Orton has been looking to exact revenge on The Miz ever since Miz cashed in his Money in the Bank contract and won Orton’s WWE Championship in November of last year. Orton had a chance to regain his world title at the TLC pay-per-view in a Tables Match, but Miz outsmarted Orton twice and won the match. Miz recently defended his championship against number one contender John Morrison on Monday Night Raw. On that same episode of Raw, Orton won a triple-threat steel cage match that would determine the new number one contender for the Royal Rumble pay-per-view. Orton will get another chance to win back his belt. Prediction: The Miz barely hangs on to his WWE title, with help from his apprentice, Alex Riley and a Skull Crushing Finale.

Royal Rumble Match: The match that fans look forward to every year is the Royal Rumble Match. The rules of such a match are pretty simple. Two wrestlers start in the ring, with the goal of tossing their opponent over-the-top rope. Every two minutes there is a new wrestler entering the ring, until a total of thirty wrestlers have reached the ring. The last wrestler standing in the ring wins the match and headlines WrestleMania for title gold. The Royal Rumble has produced some great surprises and returns, and this year might be no different. Prediction: The final four wrestlers will be CM Punk, John Cena, David Otunga, and Justin Gabriel. Cena eliminates Otunga and Gabriel, only to be eliminated himself by Punk. CM Punk wins the Royal Rumble and earns a world title shot at WrestleMania.
