Don’t you love looking around at a large craft store? It’s just astounding how many different things they have. I love it when I find a single craft item that can be used to make a variety of things. That’s the case when you buy flat, wooden hearts. If you’re soon to be married you’ll find that you can create a love or heart theme with little money when you use the wooden hearts.
The hearts are available in a large assortment of sizes from tiny to huge. When you paint them you can turn them into various d©cor items for the wedding. Since they’re very lightweight you can easily stick them to walls or other surfaces using double-sided tape.
Paint the hearts then write a name on each one with a paint marker. These make nice place markers which the guests can take with them. Stick a piece of magnetic sheeting to the backside and guests can hang them on the fridge when they get home.
Cut heart shapes from fabric or lace, glue them onto the wooden hearts, and use these for coasters, wall d©cor or even curtain tie-backs. Set candles on these hearts or glue a flower to each one. The floral type can be set on tables and other areas as d©cor for the wedding.
Stack the wooden hearts to make servers for foods. Choose hearts which are all the same size or ones that diminish in size. Glue a large-diameter dowel at each curve of the heart, and at the point, then glue another heart onto the dowels. Continue in this manner to build a three or four tier stand for cupcakes, finger foods and more. Use just one painted heart as a base or plate for other foods. Or, stack them, using the wooden dowels, but use small hearts. These are great as candle holders or to make a pedestal floral arrangement.
Paint a large heart, push it into a block of painted Styrofoam, then glue it in place with hot glue. Write “Love” on the heart or even the names of the bride and groom. This makes a lovely centerpiece that’s not expensive yet appropriate for the wedding theme.
Make small party favors for little girls by purchasing a bag of fake wedding rings. Glue a painted heart onto each ring and pass them out to little girls.
Paint many red, pink and white hearts, in various sizes, then place them down the center of a table, randomly, to make a runner. Or, line up same-size hearts to make a different runner. These can be littered with fresh or silk flowers, set amongst candles, or can be featured by themselves.
Wooden hearts are very inexpensive and are appropriate for nearly any wedding. Make assorted ones, in various sizes, then use them to decorate, use them as party favors, or use them to make servers. You can’t go wrong with the heart d©cor that’s cheap yet beautiful.
