Women’s Espadrilles

Espadrilles are great for summer. They’re comfortable to wear and are virtually weatherproof. This is mainly because espadrille soles are made of rope, or a rope-resembling kind of rubber. Along with the soft sole, the straps of this shoe are usually made of cloth or canvas but it is not only limited to those materials. A common misconception with the espadrille is that it is sometimes called a wedge. The wedge shoe only refers to the shape of the heel but not all wedges are espadrilles.

There are so many styles of espadrilles to choose from but here’s a list that will hopefully lead you to great finds no matter what your budget is. Disclaimer : the prices listed below may vary depending on the store and promotions that are not within control of this author.

Ankle-tie espadrilles are very chic and versatile. You can wear them from casual to dressy events – within the beach vicinity, that is. You can also tie those ribbons to whatever the occasion, or your whims, might dictate.

Rickrack trim espadrille $15
Skull-and-Bones Espadrille $29.99
Rocket Dog Women’s Anna Espadrille $44.95

Slingbacks are a very popular style for espadrilles. But unlike slingback ‘heels’, espadrille slingbacks are much more demure and playful at the same time, with the variety of colors that are available today. There are even colorful and funky designs out there which make this shoe a total must-have for summer.

Strappy espadrilles are the most comfortable kind of strappy shoes you can wear. The selection below is a tad pricier but you can be sure that you will be standout with these beautiful designs.

Lauren Ralph Lauren ‘Celestine’ Stretch Crossband Espadrilles $79
KORS by Michael Kors Allie Espadrille Wedges $240

Stuart Weitzman Women’s Bendit Espadrille $175.12
Stuart Weitzman Mettalic Espadrilles $275.00

Closed Toe espadrilles can either be ankle-tie, or slingback but you can be sure they’re still light and airy enough for the beach. Having only coverings on the front – sometimes the back, with openings on the side, they’re the perfect compromise between relaxation and restraint.

daniblack Crowne $125
Bettye Muller Women’s “Katy” Linen Espadrilles $170.00

Peeptoe or open toe are the cross between closed-toe and sandal type espadrilles. The peeptoe is gaining its popularity back after a brief stint a few decades ago. Now, they look more young and preppy making them perfect for beach parties and trips to the mall.

Simple Espadrille Ballet Shoe $29
Simple Tic Tak Toe 85
Kenneth Cole $98
Flat Reva Espadrille $165

Closed espadrilles are the most conservative for this type of shoe. You can even probably use it at work without much opposition for dress code violations.

Andre Assous “Pamela” Canvas Espadrille Wedge $29.99
Annie Shoes Women’s Belinda Espadrille $49.95
J. Shoes Women’s Raquel Wedge Pump $124.95

You can always check out more styles and there are plenty of them to choose from. Just remember in choosing shoes, comfort weighs more than fashion. Although espadrilles are already comfortable footwear by themselves, other factors such as heel height, the arc of the sole and fit of the straps are important to ensure yourself a blister-free summer experience.
