Why You Shouldn’t Buy Songs on ITunes

Digital Rights Management, Drm, Ipod Fm Transmitter, ITunes, Music Software

iTunes has become the most popular music software available. Everyone has an iPod or an iPhone, and Steve Jobs is a household name. But is iTunes really the best place to purchase songs?

#1 – DRM (Digital Rights Management)

Ah yes, the dreaded DRM. DRM basically limits the ways you can use songs or other media. A song bought on iTunes (with the exception of iTunes Plus – more expensive) is only playable on iTunes and your iPod/iPhone. This is a pain if you want to move away from iTunes someday or get an MP3 player that’s not an iPod. All that music would be worthless. At that point you’re essentially locked in to Apple products, whether you like it or not.

#2 – Quality

The songs downloaded on iTunes are not always the best quality, so if you burn it to a CD to listen to in the car or wherever, the quality will not be as good as it could be. This is also a problem for audiophiles who like their music in very high quality.

#3 – Price

iTunes usually charges about $10 per album (more or less depending on what it is), which adds up over time if you buy a lot of music. They recently started charging $1.29 for certain songs as well.
